    Avantages

    The company has a good focus on personal development and choosing your own career path is largely up to you if you take the initiative and talk to the right people. Plenty of opportunities for secondments at other business (+/- a year or two) and client exposure is high on some projects. Flexible working hours and relaxed office environment. I have however noticed in a change for the worse in recent months.

    Inconvénients

    You are placed in a team when starting which might focus on engineering which you are not entirely confident with. Once you're in a team, its very difficult to move. Some teams are also quite cliquey. There should be more choice in which team you are placed, or at least an explanation/summary of what each team does given to prospective employees before they join. There is a mismatch between a constant push for productivity...

    Perhaps slow down the aggressive growth policy (20%/year?) Focus more on how to increase the efficiency of the business as it current is rather than hiring more and more cheap grads.

    Avantages

    Variety of projects to work on. Career progression is decent for a large organisation. Flexible benefits are decent.

    Work/life balance isn't as good as the company claims, not since the takeover by SNC-Lavalin. This is a particular problem because Atkins selling point vis-a-vis their competitors has always been that that the work/life balance is superior, with the trade-off being a lower salary than the likes of other engineering consultancies.     - Variety of projects (also see cons), nice people to work with who appreciate your contribution and going the extra mile. - Some of the benefits are quite good - but often matched at the same level as other consultancies: buy/sell extra holidays, BUPA, gym membership, etc. - Not sure the recent merge with SNC-Lavalin will change anything.

    Inconvénients

    - Too much red tape, senior management seems to be detached from the rest of the company. - London office amenities are terrible - often crowded, nowhere to sit. Useless hot-desk system as regulars tend to frequent the same spot every day. Heating/cooling is sub-par, we had 2 weeks without heating in one wing during the worst of the winter in 2016... - Focus on billable hours/productivity...

    - Pull your head out of the sand. - Change work distribution based on experience, not costs. - Listen to your staff, and stop ignoring suggestions for improvement and rebuff them with lip-service. - Some teams have time and budget for self/team-development, why not all? - Stop sending out useless 'anonym'* company surveys that will give you whatever results you want to get out of it. Talk to your people regularly...
