    Avantages

    Good work life balance
    Generous training budget
    Good benefits

    Inconvénients

Staff morale is low, and turnover is high- senior management aren't addressing issues at a line manager level. Seems to be a culture of 'if your face doesn't fit, you're out'.

    Conseils à la direction

Look to your people managers to find out why so many people are leaving.

    Avantages

    Nice lower members of staff

    Inconvénients

Poor structure at the top end of teams. Change management is a shambles and has a knick on impact on other teams.

    Conseils à la direction

    Change the change team.

J'ai travaillé chez ELEXON à temps plein

    Avantages

ELEXON is an extremely supportive and collaborative working environment, with friendly and helpful colleagues always willing to lend a hand, respond to questions, and to go the extra mile when needed. I found staff to be approachable, personable and friendly, which made for a productive and motivating atmosphere. My line manager was flexible, especially when making requests to work from home, and I had an extremely supportive manager and team, who were a joy to work with.

The Executive team are accessible, visible and approachable, and generally worked hard to create a good working culture. ELEXON offers a good benefits package, which compared to other organisations I've worked at, is extremely generous. There is a good work-life balance, salary, and real efforts are made with the induction process and welcoming new starters to the organisation.

There are lots of bright people working there, with a high level of technical knowledge, most of which people are willing to share, which helps people across the organisation learn about the technical aspects of the industry, as well as helping colleagues in their daily work.

    Inconvénients

There has been a high staff turnover, and there have been issues with career progression, however I appreciate that is the nature of corporate hierarchy - unless there is a shift in the senior management or team leads, there is limited opportunity to progress, but this is true of many companies.

Due to the nature of the company, and working within the remit and limitations of the BSC, it can be very risk averse and bureaucratic. The subject matter can also be quite dry, which can mean that it is difficult to be energised and motivated by some of the work undertaken. There can be interesting projects to get involved in, but often this is limited to those able to get involved due to the expertise required.

There has been a lot of work done to break down the silo mentality between departments, but there can be limited inter-departmental communication. With the introduction of Yammer, digital screens, and opportunities for knowledge sharing through Learn & Lunches, hopefully this will help to address some of these concerns.

    Conseils à la direction

The CEO is very visible in monthly updates to staff, but there are limited opportunities to hear from others on the Executive team.

The annual survey is a great opportunity for staff to provide feedback on what
is great, and not so great about working for ELEXON, the perception could be that it takes a long time for changes to be made. And staff want to see changes throughout the year, not just a few months ahead of the next survey. However, the Executive do take this annual survey seriously, and work hard to address areas of concern where possible.

Whilst appreciating that recruitment can take time, and HR and managers work hard to fill vacancies as soon as they can, there are times when teams/individuals are extremely stretched due to lack of resources.

J'ai travaillé chez ELEXON à temps plein (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

    Some nice people.
Well stocked staff area (but needs updating).
Central Euston location for transport links.
Money's OK whilst you use the job as a stepping stone to something better.

    Inconvénients

Departmental cliques and lack of co-operation.
Bureaucracy gone mad - " Here's a booklet about it".
Crazy over-use of jargon to the point of incomprehension.
Lack of any genuine career progression despite the much lauded Foundation programme which is the biggest con of all.

    Conseils à la direction

Talking the talk is great, but where is the substance?
Meetings about meetings and key players in place to keep conversations going but ultimately it seems in everyone's interests to achieve very little of meaning.
Key senior people keep their heads down, contribute little and keep taking the pay checks until retirement; energized youngsters lose interest and leave very quickly. Why isn't this being addressed?
Foundation programme miss-sells roles to grads. No real career progression, just menial tasks for monkeys, whilst seniors consistently work from home on Fridays and are uncontactable.
Communications department is grossly overstaffed and self-important - constantly using internal systems to promote itself and exclude the efforts of others by promoting false messaging.

Je travaille chez ELEXON à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

I have waited a year and half before writing my review to make sure any honeymoon period was over ... just in case ... but am very pleased to say that the positive experiences here have continued from day one.

I have an excellent manager who cares about me and my work and I now formally work one day a week from home but have been doing so informally for several months. I also work flexible hours to fit in with home commitments.

I have met several times with the Executive as part of my job and found them to be open and keen to support change and innovation. They are relaxed and know everyone by name and always happy to chat.

CEO has a positive approach to staff and the company’s culture and is keen to see it develop further.

Any issues that have been raised are taken on board and form part of an action plan to improve things. Annual staff survey is also a good way to raise issues or ideas and a “you said, we did” action plan comes out of this as well.

    Inconvénients

Some teams seem to apply a “local” approach to flexible working. However, this is now on the radar and should be tackled.

Of course nowhere is perfect but I would recommend working here.

    Conseils à la direction

Keep placing staff at the heart of your planning ... they are your most important asset.

    Avantages

I hadn't heard of ELEXON before I joined - it's not as well known as other regulators like Ofgem and National Grid - but I'm so glad I came to work at this company. The people are really friendly and there's a real culture of openness and respect. Work life balance is also really good, as are company benefits and training opportunities.

    Inconvénients

The work that ELEXON does is complex and it does take a while to get your head around it.

Je travaille chez ELEXON à plein temps

    Avantages

I have worked a number of places before coming and can really say that this by far has been the most interesting place to work. You have the opportunity to work with experts who are happy to mentor you. Colleagues are friendly and helpful. The company is going through an exciting period of change which is opening up opportunities which have not been there in the past. It is a great place to learn grow and contribute into a sector which is vital to this country’s economy

    Inconvénients

ELEXON is a medium size organisation with obvious constraints that inherent in similar medium size employer. If you are looking to grow your knowledge & profile within the electricity sector you can at ELEXON. If you are looking to progress up the proverbial corporate ladder at ELEXON, one would need to realise that as with any other medium size organisations ELEXON has a flat managerial structure

    Conseils à la direction

    Carry on with the change

  8. « Great place to learn but not great for career progression »

    Avantages

    - Knowledge of settlement within the Electricity industry is extensive
     - Position in the industry is good - helps people in customer facing roles to expand their network
     - Good reputation - working there for a couple of years will definitely beef up your CV if you want to further a career in Energy
     - They pay more than their competitors

    Inconvénients

    - The company is a one trick pony as their remit can only reach so far without regulatory approval - because of this there is no room to progress unless someone leaves the company
     - A number of knowledgeable people have left the organisation and there are gaps where knowledge has not been properly transferred
     - In the last few years a number of great people have left (almost entire teams have turned over) and this has impacted the atmosphere at the company - not very social anymore
     - I hear the company is becoming more flexible with working - though its worth noting that part of the reason I left was because it was not flexible enough - I was told I could not work from home unless it was for medical/doctor reasons
     - I feel that the exec needs to be more diverse - not enough female influence

    Conseils à la direction

Diversify at your exec level and create more opportunities for females to move up the ladder, invest more in your lower level staff, create more job progression opportunities, be more flexible with working arrangements, encourage the company to socialise and communicate across departments.
