J'ai travaillé chez EY en Contrat Permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

All big four come with their own share of perks. At EY, that included fancy trips to get training for a week, overtime meals, discounts on your phone bill, and reimbursement of your personal phone line. You can learn so much as long as you are asking the right questions from the right people. Career opportunities are good as long as you can keep up with the fast pace and long hours. Also, SOME of the people were very fun to be around. It certainly made the long hours much more pleasant.

    Inconvénients

Too much politics. I don't know how many times I heard the whole "have you talked to your counselor?" suggestion when it came to simple things such as being worked to death. You are just another number under their belt to get the tax returns out. You are constantly under pressure to outperform every single other staff out there, and if you turn down work because you are already working 13hrs/day during December for a client whose bill code is not open yet, you will appear to have "open availability" and be resented for not adding another 30hrs worth of work to your schedule. Budgets are a joke. Everyone eats their time so they are not the one to blow the budget, which then leads to smaller budgets next year, which means new staff who charge their full time get questioned about their efficiency or their capabilities... it's a vicious cycle. The people above your are not always your friends. Some will have no problem putting you under if it means they will not be questioned about the budget or presentation of things. Some will also never take the time to train you because the are 'too busy' (aren't we all?), so make sure to ask for constant feedback or else you will wind up with a poor review at year end that could have been avoided if you forced your seniors and mentors to be more .... well .... seniors and mentors. #rantover

    Conseils à la direction

Do not obtain engagements by underbilling in comparison to the competition. The budgets become a heavy burden to everyone involved.

Not all staff and seniors want to feel pressured to do high volume work by jeopardizing quality. If there is poor quality work being received from a staff, management should evaluate how much adequate training the staff is receiving from the senior in that engagement. It's not fair for that staff to approach other seniors with questions on how to do things just because the senior in their engagement is not willing to take the time.

Do not resent your staff for wanting to take their life back. If you come to them at 10pm asking them for help with a project just because they are the only ones there, check yourself; i.e. why is this staff still here? is their schedule online reflective of their schedule in real life? if not, WHY? Where is their senior so i can discuss their actual availability?

Do not pick favorites! We see it! Staaappp!!! It's not fair that this person becomes your favorite because they completed a simple return with little comments, meanwhile others have to work on more challenging returns that naturally receive more comments. We all work just as hard, please be cognizant of this fact.

Je travaille chez EY à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Great people to work with in the Dallas Tax practice. The people I work with care about life outside of work and do what they can to support work-life balance. Good benefits (e.g., EY pays about 80% of the cost of healthcare). Many opportunities to grow and learn on a variety of projects, including tax compliance and income tax provisions to specialty groups such as international and indirect. The diversified staff group model is great for those who do not get staffed on one of a couple of large engagements (see cons).

    Inconvénients

Some new hires in Dallas (about 30%) are staffed on large engagements that do not permit them to gain different experiences within the first year or two of employment. Overall, however, I believe EY is more flexible and committed to providing a diverse experience than the competition. Another con is that there is not much differentiation in raises between average performers and high performers, at least in the first couple of years.

    Conseils à la direction

Compensate high performers better. Be transparent with new hires/recruits and explain that the DSG model for some will not realize until year 2 or year 3 with the firm.

    Avantages

A ton of free food, social events, travel if you are willing so points perks. Reimbursement of health activities and decent benefits

    Inconvénients

Too many bosses and micromanagement. Communication is very poor and certain partners/directors are afraid to have direct and honest conversations. A lot is delegated. Often feel like a number.

Big difference in very busy season vs. slow seasons. During busy season, you work a minimum of 52.5 hours a week

    Avantages

Inclusive higher-ups, growth opportunities if you stick around, great benefits

    Inconvénients

I love the environment at EY compared to what I hear about other Big 4's, but I believe the pay is less and you receive less vacation days. Busy season is hectic and I'm not sure when it ends.

    Conseils à la direction

More competitive pay compared to other Big 4's and vacation time

    Avantages

Exposure to different types of clients and different types of work

    Inconvénients

There are so many people that sometimes you feel lost in the mix. Salaries and promotions are very standard and not much based on performance. High turnover so engagement teams are constantly understaffed.
