Je travaille chez Great Western Railway à plein temps (Pendant plus de 8 ans)

    Avantages

GWR is more than a company. Its a family and a way of life. I am proud to work for them and consider the opportunity like getting a golden ticket in life. Challenges are constant but with the focus of resolution the colleagues and management lead the way in the railway industry.

    Inconvénients

The railway infrastructure changes and huge network have uncontrollable impacts to GWR which is hard on the brand.

    Conseils à la direction

If you have a thirst to progress and be recognised for achieving then this is the company for you.

Je travaille chez Great Western Railway à temps partiel (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

GWR really looks after it's people. I've never worked anywhere that the management right from the top understand that good people need to be treated well and recognised for their contributions. There are great development opportunities and a dedicated team to make sure that our people reach their potential. The railway feels like a family and it's great to work in an industry that really makes a difference to people's lives.

    Inconvénients

Our company is transforming with new trains, better facilities and new ways of working. That can prove tricky - change is hard for people, both our people and our customers. Because we are so important to our customers, when things go wrong it can provoke strong reactions from customers, but we provide top quality training to help us respond well.

    Avantages

GWR is a developing and changing business that offers a broad range of opportunities in which to develop your skills and/or build your career.

    Inconvénients

It is a complex business and improving business processes can be slower than you might think - but it's well worth the wait!

    Conseils à la direction

Keep building your visible support to colleagues

Je travaille chez Great Western Railway à plein temps (Pendant plus de 10 ans)

    Avantages

Great colleagues, will always have a laugh
    That’s about it

    Inconvénients

    Appalling messroom conditions
    Absent senior management
Managers that want to sack frontline staff at any opportunity.
    Rostering that leaves you fatigued
Company wants to cut costs at every opportunity.
Not interested in providing a decent service
Company doesn’t listen to front line staff
Managers not accountable, never own up to a mistake
    Incompetent management team

    Conseils à la direction

Get out of your offices & experience how dire the actual service is.

Je travaille chez Great Western Railway à plein temps

    Avantages

Meet nice passengers. Free Travel in UK.

    Inconvénients

Managers never put their hands up when they make mistakes. They give staff members a hard time - especially the HOST MANAGERS. It's always two different systems. One procedure for the favs, and if your not in the round table - aka, the favs then you are having more than the habit of a lifetime!

The managers go on the trains looking for mistakes. Line managers are always interested in GOSSIP and how they can UPSET colleagues. Lots of relations here - worse than EastEnders - fact.

    Conseils à la direction

Change the line managers in the Wales depot's. It's time our MD actually takes action on this because it's very bad for business as line manager's sweep things under the rug's and think they are untouchable.

Fire people for petty issue's then have a typical day with about 15 uncovered turns. I ask one question to the board of directors? Why spend so much money training people? Absolute shame.

Je travaille chez Great Western Railway à plein temps

    Avantages

    Good team of colleagues
    Every day is different

    Inconvénients

Long days, often working after hours

    Not enough staff for workload

    No work life balance

Not a good service for customers due to weak management and poor planning

Poor senior management team who often sweep issues under the carpet and give little support.

Director level unaware of what’s happening as the company is spread over such a big area.

    Conseils à la direction

I have seen other middle manager colleagues poorly treated by a particular senior manager in this company, but this gets covered up time and time again from the Directors.

J'ai travaillé chez Great Western Railway en Contrat Permanent (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

    Frontline staff are decent people

    Inconvénients

Riddled with self-interested and incompetent managers, Brunel would be turning in his grave.

    Conseils à la direction

Every effort should be directed towards running a train service, not running patronising staff training sessions and in-fighting

J'ai travaillé chez Great Western Railway en Contrat Permanent

    Avantages

Good salary. Most people are a pleasure to work with.

    Inconvénients

Too much change and focus on things that don’t matter in the scheme of things. Should invest money into improving reliability and punctuality as opposed to painting trains pretty colours.

    Conseils à la direction

Focus on the important things instead of blaming others for performance issues.
