Avantages
The company depends on young talent, so recent graduates/new journos will get good experience in a newsroom. Bonus structure (based on hits) benefits writers. A great place to learn from other writers/editors. Truly smart people.
Bagels on Wednesdays.
Ultimately, IBT is just a stepping stone, though.
Inconvénients
Traffic driven, no transparency between higher-ups and writers/editors, very much trying to be a new media company but failing. Bonus structure means some writers earn more than editors. Missed pay dates as recently as December 2015. Expensive health coverage, no 401K.
Seemingly poor handling of finances and no long-term strategy for growth could explain why IBTimes' newsroom has dwindled to 22 from a peak of 110 last year. All the other properties within the company have also gone thru staff cuts (two rounds: one earlier this year and one last week). I was not a part of this, but I learned more of it through Twitter and Politico than any internal correspondence.
Overall, the company goes through drastic ups and downs and it doesn't value its employees. While editorial runs smoothly, corporate is a mess. Great place to start, but if you can avoid it, do so.
Conseils à la direction
Get it together. Come up with a plan that works and keep your staff informed so that they'll want to be loyal when sh-t hits the fan.

Inconvénients
Content farm. Bad HR policies. Excruciating office politics. No focus on originality. No apparent long term goal. Bad work environment. They will promise you a lot of things but in the end you will get nothing.

None. Zero. Nada. Wait, you're close to the ferry. That's it.
Inconvénients
The entire place is a joke. CEO is heartless, article success based on traffic and not content. Newsweek was further destroyed by IBT's incompetence and sites like Latin Times (useless junk) and their medical and main sites are all pointless. Pay is a joke and so is the benefit package. STAY AWAY PLEASE!!!!

Avantages
The editors want to make your work as strong as possible. Also, there's a bonus structure that gives employees a chance to make decent money.
Inconvénients
There's a lot of confusion about the direction of the company. One day it's traffic, one day it's original content and hard-hitting journalism. Which is it, IBT?
Conseils à la direction
Communicate with staff about the direction of the company.

Avantages
There is nothing positive at IBTimes Italy. No office, no benefits, no social life.
Inconvénients
I worked for almost 4 years for Italian edition of IBTimes and it was one of the worst place I ever worked. People who are in charge earn a lot of money, while others' wages are very scarce. In addition they almost don't know anything about journalism and communication, but pretended to do.
Conseils à la direction
Be careful about who put in charge at yours local editions.

Avantages
Decent place to start your career. Opportunity to travel. Lots of young people. Good social scene. Can make good friends.
Inconvénients
Won't offer benefits if it costs them anything. No 401K matching, dirt poor salary, no review periods so no one knows how they are progressing, totally unfair salary balance across news room, computers awful to the point that it makes newsroom uncompetitive, highly inexperienced management, especially ME. One editor in particular toxic to morale and make people deeply unhappy. That's passed down from the EIC, who everyone fears. Newsroom is full of fear.
Reporters/Editors don't want to take risks because they are scared of EIC. That trickles down through the newsroom and results in people just doing enough to get by. Young people need to be encouraged and told that failure is just part of the job. That doesn't happen at all.
IBT is a stepping stone, not a destination. If they could do more to treat people better and offer more benefits and salary they might gain a better reputation in the media world and some loyalty.
Conseils à la direction
Do more for your staff or they WILL withdraw their labor. Yes, that's coming. Get ready.

-PR director is awesome at getting writers on TV/Radio

Avantages
I chose to work at IBTimes because the editors I interviewed with seemed passionate about building an ambitious newsroom that combined breaking news with deeply reported features. I didn't assume that they had everything figured out from day one because it was clear to me that they were in growth mode, and had their sights set high (also, no media outlet has it all figured out, I've also learned while in previous positions). I was and still am excited to be part of that. It's definitely not for everybody. But my experience at IBTimes has so far held up to that original impression -- the editors here are willing to invest in talent and pursuing great stories in a way that I've not seen at many traditional outlets. It's refreshing to be part of a place that is growing rather than constricting. There is freedom to write about topics of my choosing within my beat and I have definitely been able to report stories more broadly and fully than colleagues at other outlets. I think that's the direction the publication is heading, and I think it's a smart one.
Inconvénients
It's definitely a fast-paced newsroom, not for the faint of heart. It takes awhile to understand the vision and aspirations of the editors and may seem bit chaotic in the interim. The place is growing so fast that it's sometimes hard to form a strong sense of community and see any shared vision on a day to day basis, so you have to trust in the process and the editors who are working hard to lift the profile of the publication.
Conseils à la direction
Continue to hire smart reporters with ambitious ideas and invest in the stories that other outlets have abandoned. Talk directly with your newsroom staff more to help everyone arrive on the same page and see their role in the broader mission.
