    Avantages

Flexible working and good work life balance. Diversity is being addressed

    Inconvénients

Politics at line management level in Manchester tends to reward themselves. Promotion is not objective, its very subjective to the whims of the line manager. Very few women at the top, hardly any ethnic minority above middle management

    Conseils à la direction

Get on with it. You tend to pat yourself at the back more often than you reflect on mistakes.

    Avantages

Good people in labs & management. Reasonably interesting work, generally good place

    Inconvénients

Can be somewhat disorganised, not enough space, workload highly variable, goes from nothing to do to 'work yourself ragged' often, mostly because of convoluted approval systems.

    Conseils à la direction

Streamline protocol review & approval process or allow some work 'at risk'. Also, more money please

    Avantages

Free tea, good people in a bad situation

    Inconvénients

Typical european company using its over seas branches to hire fire people without consequences. Its a revolving door, emloyees are not appreciated and they know it. People are being used as long as they are willing to stay, this results in low morale. Managers have little or no decision making power or any way to reward employees, plus they don't know what to expect next from over seas. Sometimes are told to... lay off people, when they need them. What work culture? There is a small club of favourites who are doing OK and there is the rest of people who are just looking for another job.

J'ai travaillé chez QIAGEN à temps plein plus d'un an

    Avantages

Very little stress Decent benefits Generally friendly atmosphere Unlikely to fail in the near term

    Inconvénients

Very large numbers of mediocre staff. No sense that change is possible. Poor retention of anybody above average

    Conseils à la direction

Take the plunge and clear house. It'll be cheaper in the long run to pay the redundancies sooner rather than later. Do it now and there's still time to build a better company (with a tenth of the headcount)

    Avantages

Friendly people. Great product (high speed DNA sequencer). Beautiful campus surrounded by conservation land.

    Inconvénients

Much of the company's direction is set overseas so it is always difficult to know if your input is being heard.

    Conseils à la direction

Listen more to the people who are actually doing the work.

    Avantages

Products have a positive impact on world health; Excellent Location; Competitive pay and benefits; Flexible work hours; Internal training opportunities. The effort to overhaul internal training has provided more development opportunities. I am lucky to me in a department with a supportive manager who values my contribution. My particular department is excellent, a great team working atmosphere. I see room for... growth, and while slow, promotion as well. There have been some challenging projects, but in operations, I feel all departments really work together to achieve a common goal.

    Dérouler

    Inconvénients

Stability and work environment varies greatly from department to department. Some departments appear to be highly mismanaged. The company overall is slow to promote, but this is also dependent on department. Middle managers have a close relationship with their team, but senior leadership seems out of touch often setting unrealistic timelines or losing focus on projects. Communication from Global Management to... lower levels needs work.

    Dérouler

    Conseils à la direction

Equalize promotion opportunities to be truly on merit and not just seniority. Effectively align and communicate from the top down.

    Avantages

The people are friendly. Flexibility is great. Free beverages etc, i am required to fill up the 20 word limit so that's about it.

    Inconvénients

Salary very low. Make sure you negotiate when getting the job as it is virtually impossible to change unless you get a higher position. Certain decisions missed logical thinking. Situations more complicated than they should be. This brings me to structure, it would be nice have more transparency in the direction and decisions made.

    Conseils à la direction

Look to you staff. This is your workforce and as surprising as it sounds, they deliver the products and know what they are doing. Salary needs fixing so staff feel more appreciated for the work that gets done. Not comparable to other companies which is slightly upsetting.

    « Research Associate Scientist »

Employé actuel - Associate Research Scientist à Frederick, MD

Je travaille chez QIAGEN à temps plein depuis plus d'un an

    Avantages

Great benefits including time off and health insurance. Good entry level position to gain industry experience post Bachelor's or Master's degree.

    Inconvénients

Difficult to move up in the company, may just be specific to Frederick location.

    Conseils à la direction

Create a way for technicians to move up in the company and progress with their career rather than hiring from outside to fill positions that current employees qualify for.

Je travaille chez QIAGEN à temps plein depuis plus de 5 ans

    Avantages

The company is pro-research, so has a strong R&D program. If you're single, lots of opportunities to work internationally, so that's great if you like to travel.

    Inconvénients

I worked at the Frederick site, which was formerly SABiosciences, purchased by QIAGEN. So, QIAGEN kept the same crappy management and the same crappy salary, but removed the large bonuses. Working directly for QIAGEN is probably better- we know they make 10-20% more than SABio employees. I assume QIAGEN does the same with other companies they acquire. Also, you cannot advance unless you are willing to work at an... international site. Work/life balance is great- the culture is VERY family friendly. Very supportive of young people having families. I had complete support to use a breast pump while at work- big controversy in the news, fully supported here.

    Dérouler

    Conseils à la direction

Put in QIAGEN management- any SABio managers still there are the idiots who couldn't get a job elsewhere. Bump salaries up to the QIAGEN norm- this is causing a lot of resentment in the SABio employees, who no longer have the high risk/high reward of a low salary yet a large bonus.
