J'ai travaillé chez Rockstar San Diego à temps plein plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

Chance to work with some of the most talented and dedicated developers in the industry on projects that have no rival in scope or quality.

    Inconvénients

Toxic management, from the top down. Hours ranging from demanding all the way to absolutely insane. Salary and bonuses were good, but should have been much better given the success of the game (and in comparison to other successful studios).

    Conseils à la direction

You make some of the best games the world has ever seen with one of the worst processes in the industry. Do better. Find a way to maintain quality while improving the process and not sacrificing developer's due to their passion.

    Avantages

International brand recognition Well known games

    Inconvénients

Do not respect your time - Productivity is measured in hours so it does not matter how much work you complete or the quality of that work as it is only briefly peer-reviewed if at all. Father's are called in on father's day to do average priority work (luckily I have no kids). Boys club / Frat mentality - Every time I detail the horrors that happen here my review gets taken down for community guidelines. I'll... let that speak for itself. (This is my third attempt to review) Disorganized - The design team received an email on Sunday at 5pm saying all outstanding work was due by the end of the day and the leads only just found out. Decisions are made by a committee of informal shotcallers from all departments, right down to every detail. They do not communicate with each other which means things change every week or even daily and blame is constantly shifted around for missing deadlines. In one case a manager's emails were being forwarded to another employee, written for him, then sent back for mass distribution under his name. However bad you think Rockstar is, it's worse in terms of disorganization. Little innovation in the product. They have been shipping GTA III clones since 2001 and while the graphics of the product do become more and more impressive, don't expect to have creative freedom against the top brass in even the smallest details or any attempts to push the envelope.

    Conseils à la direction

Nothing I say here will be listened to by management, but I advise potential employees to consider how desperate they are before putting themselves in a company that does not value them.

    Avantages

Friendly people, health coverage, 401k, dental, vision coverage

    Inconvénients

Disorganized, also they don’t mention it upon any step of the interviewing process but you’re “encouraged” to work 10hrs a day by default or “risk”(guaranteed really) you will get fired. This is informed to you on your orientation. Because of zero pipelines everyone just works to get bugs fixed quickly rather than solve a bigger problems properly. You will have very little to zero chance to move up or around the... branches of the company. Less of a foot in the door and more of a better like what role you picked because that might be it. 10hrs a day is an average you will be pulling longer days and that’s not “during crunch” that’s for your every day each year, situation. We lose employees often because of this, and important team members leaving departments where they were a very important asset.

    Conseils à la direction

Create a pipeline. Have daily stand ups. Get everyone on the same page rather than wing it. Get objectives planned out up to a milestone wil realistic expectations. So progress is made and tracked accordingly.

    Avantages

You'll work on the biggest games ever made, that everyone has heard of and you'll be part of something that is truly unique. You might even get to shape your area. Cool merch, lots of nights out, some cool people. Benefits can be really impressive for some. Having a R* tour of duty on your resume is very beneficial to your career.

    Inconvénients

10 hour days (not including lunch) are standard and weekend work common - this doesn't include crunch where it can go up to 80 hours a week. You can't express any negativity whatsoever to anyone who can do anything about it - because you'll likely be referred to as a cancer and fired. Gossip and paranoia is rife, and sycophancy is survival. Subordinates often get thrown under the bus by their bosses. Your... role/responsibilities can get taken away with no discussion.

    Conseils à la direction

Why do they never send anyone to conferences? Because no one can tell them anything.

J'ai travaillé chez Rockstar San Diego à temps plein

    Avantages

Working on highly anticipated games, decent benefits and most beverages are free A free copy of the game once it's released Some of your colleagues are really cool, smart and hardworking people

    Inconvénients

It's pure chaos. There is no organization whatsoever while employees are required to put in ridiculous amounts of overtime (which is monitored by management) Managers will talk a big game but never actually follow up on items they claim they will follow up on which you will get blamed for. Management refuses to accept responsibility for their own actions and instead choose to throw subordinates under the bus with... higher ups Cliques and favoritism are rampant. If you're into playing politics and know how to boot lick you'll be fine though your manager will still gossip about you. If not, managers will bully you until you quit or they can get you fired Elitist management which insists they know best even though most of them don't. Your competence will always be questioned no matter how good a job you do. Some managers are very obviously threatened that you can do their job better than they can and will act accordingly HR retaliation is an open secret within the company. Just because HR is a woman doesn't mean she's going to help you if you have issues with your toxic manager Everyone hates/fears New York yet very obviously wish they were New York. Some managers purposely and willfully refuse to provide accurate information to New York to foster an adversarial environment with the head studio
