    Smart people, driven environment, very challenging.

    Inconvénients

    Inconsistency, some leads are resting and vesting. Some new people are political and will gain more power because they look for it. Some old timers are not suited to their role anymore and the role outgrew them.

    Inconvénients

    TransferWise might not be a good fit for you if you can’t be your own boss. You won’t have people above you telling you what to do.

    Avantages

    Working at TransferWise has been sooooooooo much better than any other job I've had. They actually care about their employees, and I feel a part of a big team. You have a good amount of freedom when it comes to scheduling and the benefits are priced well. Everyone here is very open minded to improving and growing as a company and as a culture. Team leaders are extremely helpful, receptive, and they really do listen... to what you have to say. Everyone is empowered to change things i n the company which I really love. This job is all about problem solving and days are not boring at all. It's got the young start-up mentality of a tech place in California, but its in Tampa!

    Inconvénients

    It can sometimes be very busy, which at times can be stressful, but no where near the stress at other jobs. Scheduling time off needs to be done 30-45 days ahead of time, but there are sick days as well if needed. The pros far outweigh the cons. The pay is enough to live on, but can be a little tight. Not sure what the pay is for promotions but hopefully can get a bit higher.

    The company, in general, is made of young professionals, so there's enough room for flexibility in your schedule and all the "cool" things that modern companies, especially the ones made for millennials or gen Z have. If you're studying or working on a side project you most probably will find it not that difficult to combine both. The company offers a nice office full of different events and attractions to make... it "cool" as well you don't need to think too much about clothes, some people dress up as kids or homeless in the office and no one care about it. Remote work is quite common in the company so even you need to travel or do anything that prevents you to be in the office you can handle doing some days during the month working remotely. It's a good place to have your first professional experience, as it's a well-known company and the environment is not so strict. Just don't expect to grow super fast or double your salary anytime soon.

    All this flexibility and youth bring some downsides, some team members behave in a very childish way in stressful situations and overall it feels that the company lacks when it comes to have a "professional" atmosphere. If you never worked in a corporation you will not feel it but if you come from a company that was traditional you will definitely miss having a more professional atmosphere and colleagues. The... storytelling of the company definitely brainwashes many of its employees. Especially the recently joiners or the ones that are there since the first years. The truth of the matter is that overall the salaries there are lower than the market average and that's one of the reasons why you will most probably not find the best professionals in the market working there but most younger professionals at the begging of their career. Sometimes the company feels more like a school or university where people are more interested in the lifestyle or impress someone else than actually doing work and growing financially and professionally. Gossips and people complaining about irrelevant things all the time is very common. People from more traditional or conservative backgrounds will most probably find the company culture and colleagues a bit too liberal sometimes. I wouldn't trust most of the reviews here, as most of them come from people that are having their first jobs in the company and don't have previous work experiences to benchmark with. Also, some people are completely brainwashed by the storytelling and lifestyle. Keep in mind that TransferWise is just another money transfer company and there's nothing crazy or super new about it anymore. If you have other offers from fintechs or banks consider their offer too, don't listen only to people working in TransferWise as the storytelling there really brainwashed some people working there, do your own research.

When considering internal promotions, many roles are based outside of the Americas. When considering salaries, base compensation is a factor, not overall compensation.     You work on things at scale. Many of the challenges that smaller companies are afraid of wasting their time, over-optimizing for, are crucial here. You're trusted to do your work independently and given support when you ask for it. Engineers (and all team members!) are completely involved and relied upon during project planning - so you always have a say in what your team will work on. Flexible remote... working policy (e.g. expecting a delivery at home today, traveling, etc.) Travel opportunities to work with teammates or cross-teammates from other offices

    There is a chance some of your work will be on legacy code (Java 8, groovy, grails, angular 1.x), but this is quickly changing and as of late 2019 many services have upgraded to a newer Java (11+) and/or latest frameworks (React, Spring). Fragmented frontend code. TW has taken a "microservices for frontend" approach which is more difficult to work with (versus the ease of developing a true SPA). Team structure... happens organically which makes sense to those involved but looks quite strange from anyone trying to understand where to go for specific help. Some times it's very obvious and other times it's not. Too much information. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of nontrivial initiatives going on at once and keeping abreast is challenging but somewhat expected of you (to a degree).

    Training should not stop at onboarding or be completely left up to the individual teams. A . formal plan for keeping engineers at above a particular level of competency would work wonders. Especially as internal tooling, libraries, and best practices are created.
