    1. Great Profession and Career Job to train and learn about the Public Health Safety and Public Health Regulation and Laws regarding food and home health. 2. Can meet some great co-workers and Supervisors as an EHS Trainee or EHS I.

    Inconvénients

    1. Some of the public health surveillance districts have impatient leadership that don't like to earn their pay salary which was over $70,000 just to review and correct reports; and to discuss food and home health regulations with restaurant managers and apartment managers. 2. Some Department Health Surveillance Branch Chiefs struggles with equality and equity for African Americans and older men over 50-60 yrs of age. So, if you are black, have a disagreement with a co-worker about speaking Spanish, are an older man over 50, and don't date prominent long time employees or co-workers at the job or at other locations - expect to be weeded out. 3. Nepotism has increased problems of equality and equity for African Americans in the LACPHD and surrounding incorporated and unincorporated cities under the CDPH. 4. The LACPHD places too much emphasis on quantity of food facility inspections instead of quality of health inspections. The time constraints increases chances of poor inspections and safety risks while inspecting and traveling. 5. The Job is somewhat political letting the Surveillance Branches Chiefs and inspectors be controlled from fear of complaints from the restaurant managers and owners to the City Board Members within LA County. 6. Expect some Surveillance Branch Chiefs to not have good personnel management or conflict resolution skills. 7. Expect to be attacked and made fun if you are a new employee, come from a different line of work than co-workers or have educational degrees higher than your co-workers - especially if you are an African-American and don't want to learn Spanish as a second language. 8. Expect your Supervisors to take the side of higher level and ranking employees if you have a disagreement or problem with them. 9. There is nepotism in the personnel relations office; so if relatives want you out, they will find a way to release you.

    My advice to the Director is to put focus on quality inspections instead of the number of inspections, reduce or remove the time constraints on inspectors to reduce safety risks and keep retention rates up instead of losing employees good money have been spent to train & lastly do not let the Health Department be run by restaurant owners or managers - they are a customer who needs the health department regulatory oversight and license to be in the food business/ facility and selling food to the public.
