Entretien

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Seattle, WA (États-Unis)
    Aucune offre d'embauche

    Entretien facile

    Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Amazon (Seattle, WA (États-Unis)) en décembre 2019.

    Entretien

The process was fairly straightforward and basically everything you read about in terms of interviewing with Amazon. It can be easy if you prep for it, though it will be very challenging if you do not. It started with a call from the recruiter followed by a phone screen with behavioral interview questions. Then I was invited to Seattle for an in-person 6 hour interview. Here is a breakdown of the interview process.
Interview A: The hiring manager. This was a very laid back interview with a few behavioral questions and some brief follow up questions. We discussed the role, his expectations, and what it takes to succeed at Amazon. Overall this was the easiest of the interviews.
Interview B - This was with one of the head's of vendor management. It was two behavioral interview questions that were relatively easy focusing on data analysis and a case review question. Overall this interview was a little more difficult because you have to walk them through the process of how you would approach a unique problem they are currently experiencing.
Interview C - this was with a strategy and insight professional. I thought it was the Bar Raiser, however, I don't think it was. More behavioral questions nothing too difficult and very little follow up in terms of the answers I provided. I went into lunch very relaxed and confidant in my interview at this point.
Then I was able to break for lunch for about an hour and then came back for the fourth interview and here is where things went off the rails.
Interview D - this was most likely my Bar Raiser and this interview was highly difficult and a little disorganized. She was very clear in the 3 questions she asked about which leadership principle she was asking. However, my problem with this particular interview is that instead of working together to challenge me to deliver a great answer she just picked apart my career and told me everything I did was wrong. Quickly interrupted my responses and argued with every answer I gave. I admit that I did not handle it well and regardless of how well I did in previous rounds I knew this woman was not going to be inclined to hire me, which is honestly unfortunate.
Interview E - this interview was easy compared to the previous one, but it ended after like 45 minutes, however, by that time I was ready to leave.
Overall, the process was easy but I wasn't altogether impressed with the interview process because of the way Interviewer D handled herself - I know the Bar Raiser is important but she was just rude and borderline unprofessional which is probably what they are supposed to do, but I still think it is trite to diminish the accomplishments of another person just because you are trying to hire and develop the best. I do recommend applying and interviewing here. The process will make you a much better interviewee in future interviews. Good luck!

Two phone screens and a full day face to face - great experience all really friendly people! The questions focus on your previous work experience, both how you work and what types of results you delivered. For VM roles they can about how you think and work, rather than specific experience in the subject matter.

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 7 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Amazon (Seattle, WA (États-Unis)) en novembre 2018.

    Entretien

All interviews were based on Leadership Principles. I recommend finding at least 2 different examples for each of them and prepared the other type of questions in the internet. Glassdoor inputs were very helpful. I suggest to go over all questions here.

    My timeline was like below:
    Apply on Friday
HR informed me that they wanted to arrange first phone interview - following Monday
First phone interview was arranged for Wednesday, but then it was rescheduled to next Tuesday (due to change manager's agenda). This was with hiring manager
Hr informed that I passed first interview following next day
Second phone interview - one week later. This was with one of the team member.
Hr informed that I passed second interview following next day
On-site interview - two weeks later on Friday. 5 interviews in one day, pretty sae with phone interviews but need to convey the energy more.
Hr informed that I passed on-site interview following Wednesday
Hr shared the official offer on Friday.

Throughout the process Hr was very helpful and supportive. They even called me two days prior for coaching before first phone interview and on-site interview.

Why Amazon? (They did not ask me this explicitly, but I believe you need to prepare to hear that in any stage of interview process)

A recruiter reached out for a Senior Category Manager role. I interviewed with recruiter about my current role then went to another recruiter who explained compensation at Amazon. Spoke with a Manager of Vendor management.

The interviewer thought I'd be better suited for an SVM role, I explained I wanted to own a P&L, and he said that Category Managers do not own P&L's. (interesting because the JD clearly stated P&L management.) I then went on for a second round of phone interview with a VP. Basic high level questions on role, behavioral questions and some case based questions. Amazon leadership principle do I agree with the most?

So far I've been connect with two different recruiters for 4 different roles. They've set up a travel date for on site but to to this day they do not have a role set for me. The travel date is in 2 days! It really feels like they view potential employees as am interchangeable widget that can be put anywhere.

I'm stopping the process with them. If interviewing is this chaotic, then what it be like working for them? The first interaction you have with the company should be indicative of it's culture. Recruiters really dropped the ball on this one or this is how things are done at Amazon.

Very good process from initial contact with the recruiter, phone interviews, and on-site interview. They move relatively quickly from screen to on-site. The interview process is several individuals or pairs with limited amount of time. Everybody records your answers on laptops, which is odd and a bit off-putting

Arguably the only downside is that they try to rotate people to interview your relatively quickly so you have limited time to really have a decent dialogue and the such. Perhaps maybe over-quantitative.

Recruiter found my resume and contacted me through email. She asked if I am interested in this role. I said yes and we set a date for HR phone screen and then a phone interview. After I was selected Amazon flew me to LA for an hiring event. 4 interviews for 45 mins. I had to complete a writing assignment as well before the F2F. They came back with the final outcome within 48 hours. Very efficient process. Though I had a good interview I wasn't extended an offer. The position was Seattle based and I showed a bit of hisitance when asked about relocating from California to Seattle.
