It was a Quick and easy interview maybe 15 minutes. It was the director and one other person in the room. I applied online then I got an interview maybe two days later. I do know people that referred me there.

The interview was done by phone. There were several uncomfortable silences after each of my answers, they were probably taking notes. Face to face would have been better. Questions were very basic.

I was hired at a job fair. We went to different stations. The interview station was brief. The hiring manager looked over our resumes and asked a few questions.

I was interviewed over the phone which I now know is out of the norm, but I’m assuming the director at the time was just too busy for an in person interview. I got a call from HR about a week later letting me know I had been hired and then had to wait 3 weeks to start on-boarding and then didn’t start working until about 2 months from my original interview date.

After applying, I received a phone call that was sort of like a pre-screen. I then received a phone call to schedule my in person interview. I was interviewed by the managers at the facility I would be working at.

I had a 15 minute interview over the phone with two interviewers. It was pretty straight forward. They told me they would call me within two weeks and if I didn’t hear back to give them a call.

When I didn’t hear back within the two weeks, I called the number that was used in the phone interview. No one answered and thought it was weird that their answering machine had not be set. I left a message. My calls and messages were not returned so I called a couple more times and left another message. Nothing. At this point a month had passed and I hadn’t heard back.

I call HR, no one answered so I leave a message asking about my status. Another couple weeks go by and I had not recived a call back from HR. So I try HR’s email. Weeks go by and no response. To this day, that email has not been responded to.

Since the interviewers and HR pretty much ghosted me, I assume that I didn’t get the job. Finally I hear back from HR offering me the job so I accepted.

They send me multiple emails regarding paperwork. I have a 5 day suspense to complete paperwork. It was quite a bit considering how detailed it was. Some paperwork could be submitted through their on boarding website, and one of the forms needed to be physically submitted.

I go to the HR office and meet with someone to submit my paperwork. While doing that this person has their voice messages playing. It was on low volume, there’s no way she could hear the messages. This person was deleting messages without listening to them.

Anyway, she gets done looking at my paper work and tells me I am good to go and I should be recieving an email regarding my physical (a physical is required of this position). A week goes by and I still had not gotten this email. So I call HR to ask about it because I felt like it should’ve been sent within that week. No surprise, I am unable to get ahold of them. A week later I finally receive a call to schedule my physical.

The physical was the last thing I needed to complete my paperwork, or so I thought.

A couple weeks after my physical I get a call from HR saying that they are able to bring me on board and ask if I can start on Thursday that week. I have another job and I was scheduled to work on Thursday. So they ask if I can work the following Thursday and I can’t because of my other job. Keep in mind that the child and youth program assistant position is flex on call. Because I wasn’t able work on the days they wanted me on short notice, HR told me to call another person to figure it out. I give this person a call and we are able to schedule my first week of work. But they call me back saying that there was a miscommunication with HR and that they were led to believe all my paper work had been completed. This was very confusing for me as HR just told me that they were ready to bring me on board, I assumed that meant all my paper work was squared away. So I waited a couple weeks to give HR time to do whatever it was to finish my paperwork and I hadn’t heard back. So I give them a call and ask about my status and the person on the phone goes “yeah, so about that... the people at the program decided to rescind your offer because of scheduling issues.” But I was told my paper work wasn’t completed and now I am hearing scheduling issues. Not sure which it is but this agency is definitely not a match for me.

The really messed up part about this whole thing is that they weren’t going to contact me about my offer being rescinded. I only found out because I called. I still haven’t received an email or call from the program director about this.

This particular agency I worked with is terrible at communicating with applicants. I did my part and communicated with them and they couldn’t so much as return my calls. Very unprofessional and I was not expecting it from a government agency.

You have to apply online with USAJOBs and answer the initial questionnaire online. They take at least a month to decide if you qualify. A list of candidates and their resumes is sent to the centers and they decide who they want to interview. They call the candidates and set up interviews. It was a panel interview with several people from different CYSS (Child Youth School Services) departments. Usually one person asked all the questions although some of the others did ask their own questions.
