A senior scientist called me and asked about what I was doing for my undergraduate research in a molecular biology lab. After telling him the gist of the topic, he then asked specific questions to make sure I knew what I was doing instead of blinding following protocols. I remember he made sure I knew how to quantify fluorescence after background was subtracted, these kinds of things. Made sure I knew how to culture cells.
