Principal wasn’t prepared but interviewed and gave me a tour. They asked if I was able to use appropriate behavior management techniques to support the classroom. Students were running through the hallway during my interview. School did not seem safe.
- They asked generic questions regarding parent interaction, behavior, and working with peers.

My interview process was extremely different than others as the position needed to be filled right away. The job I was interviewing for was split between two schools (which I did not know yet). I interviewed with the principal from my first school and he didn't ask me many questions really pertaining to the job of teaching. He mostly explained what the position would be, and then asked me about how I would deal with a disruptive student in my class. He then sent me over to the principal at my second school (which I didn't know was going to happen). I had to walk to the other school (I don't have a car), and I waited about 15 minutes to wait for the other principal. She asked me some questions about my teaching style and what I would be comfortable teaching, then sent me on my way.
- How would you deal with a disruptive student in your classroom?

The interview process is too convoluted to explain, but it involved 2-3 separate interviews plus a written skills task. Nobody knows what is going on with anybody else. I was informally offered a job repeatedly for over a month but needed to wait for the rest of the interview process. By the end the job was given to someone else the day after I performed and passed the final task.
- I am not allowed to respond to this prompt due to confidentiality.

Applied online and two weeks later I received an email to be interviewed. They schedule your interview on a certain day and time. Hopefully you'll have no other obligations to attend. When I got to the interview, I was checked in and there was at least 15-20 people being interviewed for the same position. After, I was interviewed by a teacher from the BPS. She was very friendly. I was asked about 8 questions and after I was done. She said I should hear something in a few days. And I did, I received an e-mail at the end of the week about an offer.
- do you have any experience with children?
- What would you do if a student was disruptive in class?
- what would you do if a parent was upset with you regarding about their child?
- Do you have any experience with special ed students?

One interview standing in the vestibule of a building which included a parent, a board member and an educator. They were concerned as to how I would treat a student who was disruptive and that was about it. There was also a written test which ranked the interviewee and put them on a list for eligible schools. That test no longer exists since it didn't provide equal opportunity for all
- What would you do if a student walked out of the building?

- There weren't any. Everything was explained as to what I could expect to be responsible for.

Interview was held in a school closed for the day, all interviewees were in large room and called into cafeteria of school where several interviews were being conducted at once. Interview was not formal, several questions were asked and the handshake of thanks for coming in. It took a few months before you actually knew if you were hired. The orientation was a large group crowded into a small room for one day, going over the employee handbook, verifying credentials and taken an oath.
- How would you handle a difficult child in the classroom?

You had to answer questions from a panel of administrators. They had you choose between three topics to respond to. They ask you why you want to become a teacher. They ask you to describe how you would respond to a disruptive child in your classroom. They ask you about your classroom management style.
- What is your experience with teaching common core?

The interview process starts when you submit an application online or send in a resume and credentials: degrees/certificates etc. You only need a Bachelor's Degree in any major to sub for BPS. Then you just have to wait for a very long time, whenever they are scheduling interviews which they do in mass, like twice a year. So your wait could be up to six months or as little as a couple of months. When you are called in for the "interview" it is more like a "cram" session where everyone is basically hired: You're fingerprinted, given a background check, fill out beneficiary papers for retirement, and given a teacher's 101 do's and don'ts seminar (which is slightly disturbing). After all this, you're told to wait a couple weeks for clearance on fingerprinting or background check, I forget, and for Human Resources to designate you an Aesop Teaching pin and password so you can view/sign up for ongoing assignments online. This could take another month or more. I actually called and followed up with Human Resources several times before I was able to work, though they often sounded busy and highly irritated when I called or visited. I was working in a little under a month. Colleagues that didn't followup were working in 2 months or more. This is a job that one can't be dependent on to "get." Continue your job search and if you happen to get a call from BPS--great; if you don't, then don't dwell on it. They take their time. And there are much better jobs out there.
