Taken into a room so it’s just the two of you. Asked if you wanted a drink, and have a little chat to calm nerves before starting. Was told I would get a call In a couple of days to let me know if I got the job. I got a phone call the same day, saying I got the job.

Before having an interview with the hiring manager, you needed to pass an excel test. I didn´t pass it. However, I had a fantastic experience in which the recruiter not only was all the time available in case of a query previous the test but also she called me to tell me that I didn´t hit the mark. I appreciate that call and being treated as a person and not a number. Only with that, it proves that it´s a great company to work for and collaborate with.

The interview process was overall very easy. I had submitted the video recording part of my interview which then led to a zoom call interview with 2 very nice members of the DLG team, I then had to complete a group activity which was a lot of fun as I got the chance to work with some other prospective apprentices. Around a week later I was offered a job.

To note, this was for an apprentice position, so experiences may differ for permanent job roles etc.

Interview during lockdown. First interview was pre recorded questions that you answer. They ask a question and give you a few seconds to prepare and then record your answer. Second interview via live video link. Interview was explained well from the outset. Now waiting to find out whether I got the job.

The interview process was easy and quick despite the covid-19 pandemic. The video interview was a new experience but I understand a lot of thought has gone into this. My connection was not great due to the whole interview being online and I felt It was very distracting for me as I didn’t have proper equipment at the time.

    Entretien

I did a recorded video interview in which I answered some simple questions about the company, about a week later I received a phone call from someone in the Recruitment team to tell me I had progressed into the next stage, she was lovely and friendly and told me what to expect from the interview, and emphasised to use the STAR technique when answering questions. Then I had my interview over skype (due to Coronavirus I presume), the interviewer was quite blunt and not friendly at all. She told me the interview would last an hour, she asked me questions which I mostly had planned for, while I was answering she kept saying 'mmm' which I took to mean hurry up as she had advised me she would interrupt me if she needed to hurry things along. So after she said 'mmm' I would finish my answer. The interview only lasted half an hour. She told me I would hear back by the end of the week. By Friday, I hadn't heard anything, so I rang the lady in Recruitment (it was the only contact number I had). I received no answer, kept ringing once a day until Tuesday, still no answer. I eventually emailed the recruitment lady who rang me back soon after telling me I was unsuccessful, and that the interviewer said that while I was friendly and polite, I hadn't given enough detail in my answers, "especially when prompted". Saying 'mmm' is not a prompt, it is poor interviewing. It can be construed as being rushed along or even just agreement. Saying something like "go on", "can you tell me more about that", or "can you go into more detail" are examples of prompting. Saying 'mmm' is not. To hear that I failed the interview because of this, when I have 5 years of relevant experience and I know I'd be great at the job, is very disheartening. I believe if I had been given an interviewer who knew how to prompt correctly I may have gotten the job.
