    Entretien de Marketing Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative
    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

Le processus a pris +3 mois. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless en janvier 2020.

    Entretien

The process was lengthy, lacked communication and basic respect for my time, which was a red flag about the company, priorities and their hiring process. Taking more than a month to schedule an onsite after reaching out to me is ridiculous.

After speaking with the recruiter they scheduled me for an onsite to meet the hiring manager and do a video call with someone on the UK side for culture fit.  Both of these should have been remote as the first step.  There is no reason to have to come in to meet someone for 30 minutes when you haven't had a chance to speak in today's job market and get a general sense of alignment.

I came into the office and the GM (the hiring manager) claimed he didn't know about the call, so I waited in reception for 30 minutes when I should have been on the call.  This was stressful and completely disorganized.  Since the recruiter sent very detailed emails my guess is he just wasn't paying attention, which is weird since he would have been central in the process as the GM and hiring manager.

Instead of a heartfelt apology, his response was "I'm the important one".  This was not off to a good start. He sounded arrogant rather than empathetic.  The conversation was rushed and not long enough to really understand the role or get a better impression of him, although the first impression was obviously poor.

When they moved me to do the next phase, there was a presentation component and a few more interviews.  I filled out the availability and didn't hear from them for 2 weeks. I already began to work on the presentation. I reached out twice (where they should have been setting expectations and communicating with me) and the response was we were at an offsite, and we can only do 10 interviews a week since the UK and US time differences.

First off, this is a broken process, second, you need to communicate with the candidate and set realistic expectations.  Third, fix this process and respect your candidate's time and investment in the process. Remember, they are interviewing you as well.

Then they started to randomly suggest interview times and not check my availability. On the second time, I wanted to be flexible, although they essentially said this is the time we're scheduling you for.

I asked if the interview could either be moved one hour up or if they could give me a 15-minute break to recharge and eat since this was scheduled over lunchtime.  Given you're scheduling me for 2 1/2 hours with an hour presentation, a mental break is essential and most companies would plan lunch as part of the process.  All they could think of was themselves.  This seemed to be reinforcing the self-centered attitude that I picked up on from the beginning.

Instead, their response was no, and that the team had other meetings.  I asked them to find another time and of course did not hear back.

I should have cut this process off much sooner given how they were acting, this is a great picture of how the company works and treats people. Not to mention the lack of priority to hire for this role or set the person up for success and be respectful.
On another note, marketing should never report into sales, even as the first marketing hire in the US, this role should roll into the global marketing strategy and under the CMO.

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless (Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)) en janvier 2020.

    Entretien

I got into the first stage, HR called me. Had to answer to some questions about my career and why I want to work there.
After the interview the recruiter told me that he is going to speak with the managers if they want me or not. After this they waited for days to give me feedback and wrote a mail that they are looking for senior people at the moment. I clearly was looking for positions at junior level, so it was a totally waste of time.
Also I felt that this company is very unprofessional regarding interviewing the people. I don't know why they even called me.

Received call from agent who then submitted CV to GoCardless HR who arranged a telephone interview. HR was super nice and understood my concerns for hesitating further with the process inconsideration the role was submitted outside of the agent and over emphasised 'Young' in their candidate requirements.
Subsequent Skype call which was OK and lasted 45mins. Joined by 2 staff members who appeared subjective.

    Questions d'entretien d'embauche

    • Why do you want to come and work at GoCardless... member "because they only employ the best people..." prior to the interview I was informed 'humility' was a standard cultural requirement, obviously they didn't read the instructions, although constantly read questions from her laptop.   Répondre à cette question

The Interview questions were like a 1st year CS exam - just simple fact-based questions, and not fit for purpose. Interviewer was pleasant. Initial steps were slow with poor communication.

Telephone interview followed up with 2 part interview which 1 is general questions about you and your skill set against role and the other a 45 mins interview around their values which is pretty much a competency based interview, the telephone part went well then i was invited to the 2 part formal interview, i was advised i would be interviewed by the manager i would be managing if i got the role, i did not agree with this ethic however went along.
i knew the moment the manager walked in that their was no way i would get the role, right the the interview which i thought i handled really well the manager did not make eye contact or smile. in the end i was fobbed of with what the agency advised was pathetic feedback

    Entretien de Security Operations

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative
    Entretien dificile

    Candidature

J'ai postulé via une agence de recrutement. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless.

    Entretien

They contacted me through a recruitment agency upon seeing my CV.

    I had two interviews :

    1. HR
The, very nice, HR guy told me about 2 possible positions and the company.

    2. Technical Interview
About a week later I had a technical interview with a team leader. The security org is new, and they hired very good people for the lead roles. The interview was intended to be 1 hour, but extended to 2. The communication was great and pleasant, even though it was quite difficult, mainly due to the fact I had not much experience in that particular field.

No news for ten days. I sent a mail to ask for an update and thank them for the great interview. HR replied I did not get the notice they wouldn't hire me because of lack of experience in that particular position.

The funny thing is that they contacted me, had my resume, and knew I had not had this position before. And I had no explanation whatsoever.

It is really sad to see that HR sometimes treat you as a quota to their KPI, and don't even mind contacting you properly for a simple no and some explanations.

But they were generally all very nice to talk to.

    Entretien

I first had a call with the internal recruiter, then went into their office to meet a member of the team.
I was then asked to do a 1 hour presentation and then do a value based interview which is meeting with a few people from different teams.
After that I had to chase the HR team for an update a number of times. Both phone calls and emails went unanswered, which for the amount of time I had to spend on the application is simply unacceptable

Entretien de Senior Software Development Engineer

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)
    Aucune offre d'embauche

    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 5 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless (Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)) en juillet 2019.

    Entretien

The first step was a phone call with one of their internal recruiters. You have to talk a little bit about yourself and you get a chance to ask a lot of questions.

The next step was a 1h video call with one of their engineers for a tech interview.
The interview was a series of questions about 4 topics:
    1. Frontend
    2. HTTP
    3. Relational DBs
    4. Security
The interviewer was nice, but I had the impression they had to speed through a very long list of questions, so it felt very much like an exam.

The final interview was an onsite, split in 3 sections:
    - 1h technical interview: a brief chat about your experience, plus trying to architect a solution to a realistic problem
    - 1h coding interview: you're given a problem and have to code a solution to it, making use of some internal APIs
    - 45m values fit interview: this is supposedly the more "relaxed" part of the interview, but it's still a series of questions to probe your experience in dealing with various situations (difficult conversations, receiving feedback and so on)

You have a chance to ask questions after each section.

The majority of the interviewers were friendly, helpful and engaged.

In the end, I did not get an offer, as I had not lived up to their standards in the tech sections.

In my opinion, the interview focused too much on technical knowledge and not enough on how a candidate thinks or interacts to solve a problem (which is a better predictor of a good hire).
That said, it's entirely possible that what they need the most right now is knowledge, in which case the process fits their requirements.

I had to wait almost 2 weeks to know the outcome of the interview, which I found highly unprofessional.
