    Entretien de Marketing Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative
    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

Le processus a pris +3 mois. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless en janvier 2020.

    Entretien

The process was lengthy, lacked communication and basic respect for my time, which was a red flag about the company, priorities and their hiring process. Taking more than a month to schedule an onsite after reaching out to me is ridiculous.

After speaking with the recruiter they scheduled me for an onsite to meet the hiring manager and do a video call with someone on the UK side for culture fit.  Both of these should have been remote as the first step.  There is no reason to have to come in to meet someone for 30 minutes when you haven't had a chance to speak in today's job market and get a general sense of alignment.

I came into the office and the GM (the hiring manager) claimed he didn't know about the call, so I waited in reception for 30 minutes when I should have been on the call.  This was stressful and completely disorganized.  Since the recruiter sent very detailed emails my guess is he just wasn't paying attention, which is weird since he would have been central in the process as the GM and hiring manager.

Instead of a heartfelt apology, his response was "I'm the important one".  This was not off to a good start. He sounded arrogant rather than empathetic.  The conversation was rushed and not long enough to really understand the role or get a better impression of him, although the first impression was obviously poor.

When they moved me to do the next phase, there was a presentation component and a few more interviews.  I filled out the availability and didn't hear from them for 2 weeks. I already began to work on the presentation. I reached out twice (where they should have been setting expectations and communicating with me) and the response was we were at an offsite, and we can only do 10 interviews a week since the UK and US time differences.

First off, this is a broken process, second, you need to communicate with the candidate and set realistic expectations.  Third, fix this process and respect your candidate's time and investment in the process. Remember, they are interviewing you as well.

Then they started to randomly suggest interview times and not check my availability. On the second time, I wanted to be flexible, although they essentially said this is the time we're scheduling you for.

I asked if the interview could either be moved one hour up or if they could give me a 15-minute break to recharge and eat since this was scheduled over lunchtime.  Given you're scheduling me for 2 1/2 hours with an hour presentation, a mental break is essential and most companies would plan lunch as part of the process.  All they could think of was themselves.  This seemed to be reinforcing the self-centered attitude that I picked up on from the beginning.

Instead, their response was no, and that the team had other meetings.  I asked them to find another time and of course did not hear back.

I should have cut this process off much sooner given how they were acting, this is a great picture of how the company works and treats people. Not to mention the lack of priority to hire for this role or set the person up for success and be respectful.
On another note, marketing should never report into sales, even as the first marketing hire in the US, this role should roll into the global marketing strategy and under the CMO.

    Entretien de Product Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience positive
    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless (Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)) en octobre 2020.

    Entretien

Interview process was positive. Recruiters were very engaged & communicative throughout. Everyone was friendly & warm. They provided tips on how to interview & what they're looking for at the start of the process which gave me some direction in how to prepare.

HR screen was in-depth & meaningful. She outlined the department structure & what they were working on. Gave me a good indication of the sort of product work I'd be doing if successful.

Role-fit interview was likewise very clearly structured. All in all a pleasant experience - the interviewer made me feel comfortable in the situation. There were some challenging questions, but nothing that warranted any major freak-out.

In the end, I was rejected after a number of interviews. HR arranged a call with me to provide feedback, which was quite in-depth & definitely helpful for me moving forward. There were a couple of interesting points however. Firstly, I was asked during the interview whether I'd be comfortable in a non-managerial role (I come from a startup founder background). I knew that this would be a non-managerial role & showed excitement to learn & grow under the leadership of others. I did however mention that I was excited by the career progression opportunities available at the company. The feedback was that this was a red flag for them, which I found bizarre. 90% of companies I've spoken to pride themselves on offering career progression & like ambition in their staff, especially high-growth companies. I respect GC's position, but must admit I was surprised to hear this front & centre in the feedback.

Lastly, the job description said that it wasn't necessary to have product management experience. This would've made the interview very tough. You absolutely must research & spend a lot of time understanding product theory & concepts (however I do acknowledge that perhaps they would alter the interview in this case).

All in all, a good experience with a good company. All the best!

    Entretien de Account Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative

    Entretien

I applied for two similar roles on two separate occasions. Both times I was sent an email asking me to submit my availability. Which I did and emailed them back thanking them. Then nothing. They simply disappeared and never replied to my emails. Until they sent me a generic email (both times) to let me know that they were no longer hiring for that role (first time) and that the role had been given to someone internally (second time). Deeply unprofessional and a unrespectful. I asked them to remove my details from their database.

Entretien de Senior Product Marketing Manager

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless (Londres, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)) en septembre 2020.

    Entretien

    Interview process:
    -HR screen
-Hiring manager (and existing PMM) interview week later. This was a grilling (and it felt like it).
-Task and presentation to sales lead, hiring manager and member of product marketing team and values interview with two colleagues week after.
-Then silence for a week (I knew I hadn’t been successful).
-I requested an update nearly a week later and the talent lead called (within a few hours) and gave some basic feedback (which is a plus so thanks for that): presentation was too high level; I passed values interview.

    Interview focus areas:
Exclusively focused on sales enablement. The existing product marketing team seems to have a sales background with little/no dedicated PM experience. This was evident throughout.

    Task:
Sales enablement for enterprise invoicing. Quite a lot of work and academic in nature. Make a call if it's really worth it. I suspect in my case they primarily wanted my ideas based on my experience. Why? Because their questions were mostly around how to do product marketing . They asked how to analyse competitors, where to start with sales enablement, how to write a value prop...

I didn’t feel they really got the broader value of product marketing beyond sales enablement so I’d recommend you dig into that. Probably not a great place to develop a broad PM career; probably a good place if you like sales enablement.

    Overall tone:
Talent team didn’t do a great job of managing the process. Didn’t follow up when said they would and didn't acknowledge receipt of my task when I requested this and met their ridiculous 24 hour deadline (neither did the hiring manager). For me, that was a deal breaker. Overall, the process felt rigid, one-sided and cold which is probably reflective of their culture. Speed of process and the feedback was a plus.

The recruiter was late for the call, and didn't apologise. or acknowledge this. Recruiter then went on to literally read out the job description word for word and added no new information or context. Pulled out of process after this call.

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless.

    Entretien

I applied to GoCardless once before, and the recruiter last minute rescheduled the call. The second time around, I was waiting for a call from the recruiter and 5 minutes in they sent me and email saying they were trying to rap up another meeting. 10 minutes waiting, another email saying they were still trying to rap up another meeting. I waited 20 minutes and decided to leave it.

The recruiter managed to reschedule another call the following week and was on time. This involved talking about the role and why I was interested.

The second stage was a phone call interview with head of App Security which involved talking through my CV and where i wanted to go which was good.

However, when arranging the next stage of interviews, the internal recruiter was chasing me within hours asking why I had not filled in my availability. Which was rude. When I did fill in my availability, the recruiter came back again with "are you sure that's your first available slot? Are you sure you can't do sooner?"

I do not appreciate being pushed through a process like this. I decided this was a red flag and left the process.

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 5 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à GoCardless.

    Entretien

First heard from the HR team ~1 month after applying. They were polite, asked relevant and not very difficult questions. At the end of the phone interview I was told I proceeded to the next stage and would be meeting the hiring manager(s) the following week. I then confirmed my availability the next day, and booked a day off in the following week. I didn't hear back until the end of my day off the next week (after calling/emailing HR a few times) and was told they'd proceeded with hiring someone else. Not a positive experience to be told this after a day off had already been booked in vain on the promise of a final interview. I was surprised someone had been hired without meeting all candidates successful at the first round first.

    Entretien

It took long considering the whole process included 2 short phone calls by a recruiter and 1 half an hour interview. The whole process had a really good feel, which is a good part and lifts the spirit even during the interview. The whole feel and outlook was showing such a positive outcome and it was lead towards that point. Just to, at the end, get a response, in a one minute call, that they will not continue the process just because of a cultural fit and wrong motivation on my part (i guess the lifted spirit which was clear in the interview, due to the atmosphere). Still, misleading atmosphere and bad explanation at the end.

I got into the first stage, HR called me. Had to answer to some questions about my career and why I want to work there.
After the interview the recruiter told me that he is going to speak with the managers if they want me or not. After this they waited for days to give me feedback and wrote a mail that they are looking for senior people at the moment. I clearly was looking for positions at junior level, so it was a totally waste of time.
Also I felt that this company is very unprofessional regarding interviewing the people. I don't know why they even called me.
