I applied online, received an email a few days later inviting me to an automated video self-recorded interview. You get one opportunity to answer the question and once recorded, it cannot be re-recorded.

    The company used a one-way automated system "HireVue" for this first screening interview. Not being able to have a dialog with an interviewer and ask my own questions was both a significant frustration and a large red flag to me. Did I really want to work for a company that presents itself this way?

    I had heard great things about Illumina, so when someone forwarded me a JD matching my qualifications, I applied. A coordinator contacted me via email to arrange the discussion with the recruiter. I prepared by speaking with someone else who had interviewed there and doing hours of research on Illumina, their products, news releases, etc.

    The initial interview was scheduled for 30 minutes. The recruiter called 10 minutes late. She took another couple of minutes to pull up my resume, and asked what I knew about the company in the meantime (of course I was excited and prepared to answer given the research and my enthusiasm about the company and role). She then asked my current role twice and interrupted me to correct her question (which I had just started to elaborate upon with the responsibilities). She deferred questions about the actual position to the hiring manager. She's only been working for Illumina for a few months and didn't seem to know much about the industry. Hopefully she will learn and better represent Illumina in the future.

    • In addition to the basics, Illumina wants to hear examples of creativity, conflict resolution, and collaboration. Despite the poor experience, I'm confident the interview and hiring experience will be better for others.   Répondre à cette question

    Initial phone screen with HR. Interviewer briefly described the products they made, the company culture and job description. Was asked a few questions concerning my previous work history and qualififcations.

    Interviewer stated twice that the salary offer would not make me whole. I found this statement curious as I had not given my salary expectations nor did I think a salary discussion was approrpriate at this time considering it was not with the hiring manager and the interviewer had no authority to negotiate salary...certainly rasied a red flag for me.

    A brief discussion of benefits was held. Medical, dental, vision, 401k, company match is determined at end of year by Board and paid at this time, curious as to the reasoning for this. Would be better for employee if match was paid each pay check. on site gym, restricted stock grants

    Interview lasted about 30 minutes.

    Interviewer spoke very fast and had limited knowledge of reporting structure.

    received a call 3 days later to schedule additional phone interview with hiring manager.
