Entretien

I applied online for a Support Engineer position, and was contacted about a week later by a recruiter. As this person and I spoke, he suggested I would be a better fit for a Systems Administrator opening. I agreed, and we scheduled a technical phone screen with the recruiter and the hiring manager.

The screen itself was 30 minutes of mostly behavioral questions. They were also very interested in why I left my previous job. The interview seemed to go fine, and the recruiter left it at "we'll be screening more folks early next week and deciding who to put forward." I waited a week before emailing the recruiter to see what they'd decided, but I was pretty sure they'd decided to pass on me. The recruiter never responded, so I called to ask (not normally something I'd do, but radio silence is a poor way to treat candidates who are not being moved forward) a few days later. I was told they went with another candidate, which is fine, but a call or email to let me know would have been courteous. The way it was handled left a bad taste in my mouth.

    I received a LinkedIn message from the recruiter inviting me for a chat later in the evening to discuss the opportunity and my interest. After a very relaxed 30 minute conversation that discussed my technical skills, the role itself and the company, he told me that he would put me forward as long as I was okay with it. This was then followed up later in the week with a call from the hiring manager and another relaxed conversation.

    An interview with the rest of the team and other key individuals was setup the following week . 6 x 30 minute video meetings later and I was feeling drained but very interested. The questions were all general in nature but at the same time very open ended and allowed you to either shine or dig a whole.

    A final discussion with the recruiter and then sitting on edge waiting for the call.

    Able to negotiate if I needed to but the offer was better than expected so no real need to.
