Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +5 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Jive Software (Portland, OR (États-Unis)) en février 2016.

Entretien

After applying I receieved a call about a week later about the position. The position was advertised as a Junior Java Engineer, but in actuality it was Tech Support Engineer. The phone call was about the pay/benefits/culture of Jive. The next step was to code an application using java and their framework, fairly simple. If your app works, you would get an in person interview, but before the interview there was another phone screen.

For the actual interview it was quite lengthy. 6 different people for 30 minutes at a time. Only 1 interviewer was asking technical questions about java/sql. Everyone else was primarily scoping you out for a character fit. A lot of the questions were redundant, but there wasn't any gotcha questions.

After the initial application, I received a phone call and had a brief phone interview. The call was followed by an email asking me to build a simple web application. This was something I had never done, and much of the technologies I needed to leverage I had to learn from zero. But I did in two weeks, so with determination you can do it! Finally, I was called in for an in person interview with 5 different Jive members from the Support department. They met with me one at a time, asking me questions related to different aspects of the position. Some were more technical, others more personal. Overall, it was a very nice experience!

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Jive Software (Portland, OR (États-Unis)) en juin 2014.

    Entretien

My hiring process was a little unconventional. I was contacted through my Linkedin profile by one of the local recruiters. After exchanging some emails we set up a phone interview which took about 30 minutes, at which time I spoke with the recruiter and went overt the position as well as the the general flow of how things work at Jive. From there I had a secondary phone interview with a manager, which was similar to the first. We went over my skills set and why I was looking to move from my current job. Lastly, I was invited for a round table interview in which I spoke with the team manager and two groups of team leads. The Face to Face interviews were actually quite fun and extremely conversational, at no pint did I feel like I was being cross examined or overly scrutinized. Over all the experience was enjoyable and and straight forward. I was offered a position in under 2 weeks, no waiting games. They reviewed my skill set, felt I would be a good contributor and snagged me up as quick as possible. I was astounded at how fast I was in the door, previous positions it took at least a month for me to hear back from someone, if at all.

Smooth and well organized! The hiring manager was extremely friendly and although the process took nearly a year for me (personal reasons) they were still enthusiastic to hire me a year later.

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 1 jour. J'ai passé un entretien à Jive Software (Reading, Angleterre (Royaume-Uni)) en juin 2014.

The process was all completed in person in a single session. As I was invited to interview through a recruiter, I am assuming that any phone interview stage was skipped. The first time I spoke directly with people from Jive was in person.

The interview process was in two stages. The first was an meeting with my future managers to get to know more about me, my aspirations and past career. The mood was relaxed and informal, so I felt comfortable discussing both my career past and where I would like to end up in a few years time. They are also keen to learn if I would be a good fit with the Jive corporate culture as this is an important consideration of the hiring process.

The second round was a technical interview with two of the team to better understand skill set and how you would handle the position. Questions focused on experience with debugging and triage of problems, but also understanding of Java and how it is best used.

    Questions d'entretien d'embauche

    • The most complex question of the interview was in the technical stage. The interviewers positioned a scenario involving debugging a Java application using only tools provided in the standard Java install on a basic system. They wanted to know how I would go about debugging the JVM without access to any other tools.   Répondre à cette question
