    Entretien de Technical Account Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Bentonville, AR (États-Unis)
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris une semaine. J'ai passé un entretien à Microsoft (Bentonville, AR (États-Unis)) en novembre 2019.

    Entretien

Round robin type interview with 6 interviewees set in 6 separate rooms. Interview questions are relatively easy. Use the STAR method. There are 6 interviewers and the whole process is to last about 6 hours.

The first interview went long (was supposed to be 45 minutes scheduled but was actually 30), and the hiring manager for the position interrupted with a rude and sarcastic tone to his employee interviewing me to move on. There was something that came up, so the second person I was to interview with had a substitute from another department. The third interview was with the hiring manager and most of it was him talking about his accomplishments and "how many irons he had in the fire". The fourth interview was with a gentleman that was nice but ultimately uninterested. The fifth interview was with a woman who would have been my direct supervisor and I felt we had a good conversation. The final interview did not happen as the gentleman that was supposed to interview me never showed. Very unprofessional. That would sum up the interview nicely; unprofessional. I took a PTO day to interview with an office that was obviously not taking the process as seriously as I was. My favorite part was at the end after I had sat in a room alone for 45 minutes, and the hiring manager came in and said we were done. I informed him that the final interviewer missed his appointment with me and he then lied to my face and said that today we just did the 5 instead of 6 interviews.

Awesome. Anyhow, I got the feeling that I was an addition as a filler to round out the sixth position as I only had 2 days to make PTO arrangements. The day before I got an email that was supposed to be intended for the "ringer" as he was coming in from an office in Kansas to interview for the position. I should have contacted the Kansas HR manager to let him know I got an email that was clearly not intended for me that had him as my POC. I guess I know why one of the interviewers badmouthed the hired head hunter agency that Microsoft uses.

I still can't believe how laughably bad the whole process was. Here I was thinking all along that a company like Microsoft had their stuff together. Man, I was either really wrong, or everyone I met was having their worst day in a long time. Even though I was never really in consideration, I learned a lot and am thankful for the experience and more importantly, the story.

The phone screening was a typical behavioral interview. The final round consisted of three interviews: two behavioral and one case. The case was a mock meeting where you played the role of a technical account manager. The process was fairly easy overall and not stressful.

Overall, the interview process was very appealing. Microsoft has a lot of passion for its employees and one can see it during the interview process. After going through several interview processes with different companies, Microsoft's process was by far more welcoming and engaging than others.

First, they start with a behavioral phone interview that lasts anywhere between 45min- 1 hour. They ask normal and off the beaten path questions expected in a first round interview. Nothing too difficult.

If you make it through the first round, Microsoft will fly you out to interview with them at one of their offices. This second round consisted of 3 interviews with three different interviewers who fly out from anywhere around the country to interview you. The interviews are behavioral based and a bit of role play.

The whole process took about a month and a half in total.

    Entretien de Technical Account Manager

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Malvern, PA (États-Unis)

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +2 mois. J'ai passé un entretien à Microsoft (Malvern, PA (États-Unis)) en mai 2018.

    Entretien

The process started off well enough, but ended up being less than professional. Started with a typical phone screen that lasted about an hour. About a week and a half later I was sent a "save the date" email for a face to face panel interview. A day before the panel interview I was given my itinerary for interview day via and email from the interview scheduler. I was told to prepare a 10 min presentation on something I was passionate about that was not work related. This email also stated that I would receive feedback 5-10 business days after the interview.

Interview day is setup as a "finals day" where they have all of us who are in the running for the role come in on the same day. We are each placed in our own room and the interviewers rotated thru interviewing each of us for about 45 min a piece. I interviewed with a total of four team members this way. At that point it was time for lunch. They provided a decent catered lunch for us. During lunch the panel meets and decides who they want to have give their presentations. If you are not asked to present, then you are out of the running.

I was asked to present in front of all the folks I previously had met. Presentation went well, and I was then dismissed and began to wait for feedback from the recruiter.

Again, I was told to wait 5-10 business days. After not hearing back by business day # 11 I decided to email the recruiter and ask for a status. I was actively interviewing at the time and needed to know where I stood. I got no reply.

On business day # 13 I decided to call the recruiter and ask for an update. No answer, and her mailbox was full so I could not leave a message. I then sent another email.

On day # 14 I got an email back saying she was on vacation but would try to get an update for me. I responded asking when she was returning so I would not bothering her while she was away. I got no reply.

On day # 20 I emailed yet again and asked if she was still on vacation (At this point had no intention of accepting an offer, I was following up as a matter of principal). I got a reply within 2 minutes this time and was told the team chose someone else but she had no specific feedback for me at the time, but would try to get something for me. It is now a month later, I am still waiting on that feedback.

I have no issue at all with them selecting another candidate, that is fine. However, considering the fact that I took a day off of work, prepared an interview presentation, and spent the better part of a day interviewing, I feel I deserve at least the courtesy and respect of an answer, without having to chase people down like I did. Or at least re-set my expectations with regards to when I should expect an answer. Don't tell me 5-10 days and then ignore all of my inquires when the time has passed. No one at MS can respond to candidate when a single recruiter goes on vacation? If this is how they treat potential employees, I wonder how they treat their clients? Probably best that I found a better opportunity.

I was called by Microsoft for a relatively quick phone interview with a Microsoft recruiter. I was then invited to fly to their Charlotte campus for interviews with three people. Each interview was about 45 minutes long.

    Questions d'entretien d'embauche

    • The TAM role at Microsoft is not very technical but focuses more on the relationship with the customer. So the questions were more about how you would handle certain situations. For example, a customer makes a last minute schedule change that requires an on-site resource which isn't available for a month. How would you resolve this situation?   Répondre à cette question

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. Le processus a pris 2 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Microsoft (Charlotte, NC (États-Unis)) en février 2018.

    Entretien

The process started out quick, recruiter called and asked if i was interested in the position. Within a week they wanted to interview me in North Carolina. They had me fly out and put me in a hotel for the night. Next day I had 3 interviews, the last being with the hiring manager. During the interview she informed me she would like to schedule another interview over Skype the upcoming Tuesday. A interview scheduler reached out to schedule. The day before I reach out since no info was given about who to contact, or to even give them my skype name. The scheduler responds and acts clueless like it was never setup and said the hiring manager would get back with me first. She never did. So tuesday comes around. Nothing, from anyone. Contact my recruiter, also clueless and has no clue what is going on. Said he would speak with the hiring manager and get back to me. 3 days later after numerous emails asking for an update, i get a response saying they are going in another direction. That's fine and I respect the decision, but don't leave me out to dry saying i have another interview, be a no show and not tell me anything. Absolutely terrible interviewing experience and communication between the team.

After getting accepted and invited to come to campus after a phone interview. The on campus interview was an all day experience. Assigned a TAM chaperone who met me in the morning, had lunch with me and escorted me out at the end of the day. Also helped shepherd me between my 3 interviews. The first interview was more about me and what I have done and what I want to do. The second was more technical in nature. The third was more interpersonal interaction with a manager and role play with "clients".

They asked me about a project I performed, and informed me that they will ask me question during the interview about it. The interviewer was not informed about how the process would continue, or it was his tecnique to avoid telling me if I would pass to a 2nd interview, but he did not tell me what the next steps were, or when could I expect to have feedback from them.
