    Entretien de Software Engineer

    Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience positive

    Entretien

Applied online and had a video call interview shortly after. Interviewer was very pleasant, and asked a sufficient number of questions. A decision was delivered shortly after. Although the official email was vague and offered no feedback or insight, the interviewer did offer feedback after I contacted them directly, which was helpful. But I think this situation was unique as I already had their contact info. For candidates who don't, they may not get the same benefit. For people to grow, feedback is important, and I appreciate that this company offered that.

I sent in the application, and HR reached out to me to schedule a phone screening. I didn't get any response to my email when I provided times and dates that would work out

    Entretien de Senior Software Engineer

Employé anonyme - Los Angeles, CA (États-Unis)
    Offre d'embauche acceptée
    Expérience positive
    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 5 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à NationBuilder (Los Angeles, CA (États-Unis)) en août 2018.

    Entretien

The interview process had many stages, but it moved quickly. I submitted my resume and cover letter. 2 days later I heard back and had my first phone interview scheduled. A few days later I had a short video call with an Engineering Manager and a Software Engineer. A few days after that I had a technical screen via webinar with 2 engineers. Next I had a video call with the VP of Engineering. After that I was invited to visit the office in L.A. I had a full day of interviews where I met with many people both on and off site (via video chat). The onsite interview included a 2nd technical test. A few days later I received an offer over the phone. The whole process took about 5 weeks.

Very thorough. All video calls. All interviewers were thoughtful, empathetic, great communicators and genuinely want to add to their company culture in a positive way THUSLY impacting our Worldwide Leaders, Positively. Everyone speaks with CEO Lea as well; which I thought was wonderful. So many great things to say about this company and those who get to work for it. Only negatives: HR processes were slow and I often had to ping for updates in the 4 months I interviewed several times.

    Entretien de Customer Support

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à NationBuilder (Washington, DC (États-Unis)) en avril 2018.

    Entretien

I went through a phone interview, a technical challenge, a video interview, travelled an hour and a half to two in person interviews in DC, then had two more video interviews, the last of which was scheduled only about 12-16 hours in advance, just to get rejected over the phone in the end. Talked with a manager, multiple VPs, and the CEO. Everyone I spoke to was very nice, but that's kind of an insane process for a low level, $20 an hour job. An incredible waste of time. I jumped through many, many, hoops for them over an entire month. The whole thing was just strange. I was told they have trouble finding the right people to work there and I can see why. I hope this isn't how they run the rest of their business - I can't imagine they get anything done even remotely quickly. Like I said, everyone was extremely kind and I had great conversations with them, but I'm just confused. Six interviews with five people plus a 24 hour assignment is a bit much, especially for a position that pays barely a living wage.

Slow, not very well-thought-out process with an infuriating ending. First I had three one-hour video interviews with various engineering managers, then I was flown out to Los Angeles for an all-day series of on-site interviews. The video interviews went well, fairly easy technical questions like "refactor this piece of code." The on-site interview process was a disaster: four interviews with five people, all for "culture fit," all of whom asked the same questions. Complete waste of time. There was a fifth interview scheduled, another technical one, but they rejected me before that point. Funny thing was that they told me that they had no doubt I'd be able to do the job well, so, what other criteria even matter?

Anyway don't bother, from the rest of the reviews on here (which I wish I had seen first) it looks like I dodged a bullet anyway. Another small tech company convinced their web app is going to revolutionize humanity, and won't hire people who don't drink the kool-aid.

As others have mentioned, the interview process is PAINFULLY slow, and the recruiter who reached out was extremely unresponsive. I applied for one job, was declined a month later after they filled the role but the recruiter suggested I apply to a second, different role. I did, responded the same day, and didn't hear back for almost a month... even then, it was after forwarding the email to try and circumvent her inbox filtering - that's the thread we worked through.

I finally got connected with the Head of Product, we had a video call, and I discovered the role was quite different than the posting, with significantly more tech experience preferred. I felt like I was a good fit for the job desc, but not after talking with the hiring manager.

Also, maybe because my qualifications didn't match so well, I got the vibe that the hiring manager was not very interested in learning about my experience... like she wasn't really listening or had some other candidate in mind or something. So the whole thing felt like a waste of time in the end.

Anyways, all that adds up to a pretty awful experience overall. I was pretty excited to try and get inside NationBuilder, but this left a pretty nasty taste in my mouth. :(

This is by far the worst, most unprofessional recruitment experience I have ever been through. I've worked with plenty of companies, including multiple startups, and never have I been treated so poorly. No one in the company knows how to run a recruitment process. Poor follow ups, if any, canceled meetings, failure to reimburse expenses, misleading messages, terrible process in general, obfuscation on reporting lines, compensation, benefits, equity, no transparency on the financial status of the company, all of it.

By the time you are invited for an in person interview, you should be meeting the hiring manager. You should not receive mixed messages from the company, and if the company doesn't want to move forward, they owe you a phone call, not a standard impersonal rejection.

Clearly HR/Recruitment and the Leadership team have zero understanding of how to woo talent, which is a shame because the product and market are fascinating and filled with potential.

How a company with the pedigree of investors they have can be so absolutely dysfunctional, I have no idea.

You will not be able to compete and lead your market if you treat people so poorly during the interview process. I can only imagine how people are treated once there if this is how you treat potential colleagues. How you treat employees and potential employees is your brand and a strong brand attracts strong talent. NationBuilder has failed hard here.

Submitted a 140 character "cover letter", went through two rounds of interviews plus case study. Didn't hear back after the 2nd interview - it would be nice to know for certain that I didn't make it to the next round.

Went through a phone interview with one of the higher ups. There were many standard interview questions but most of the time we talked about my aspirations and what the company was all about. I had a pleasant experience during the call and came out of it with good impression of the interviewer and NationBuilder.

I moved up the process and was told that I needed to take their "NationBuilder Challenge". I sat tight and waited for an email with the details that was supposed to come the next day, but it never came. I took the initiative to contact the recruiter myself and immediately received details about the challenge. The challenge required me to use their software to build a website that tackled a problem that meant a lot to me. The recruiter also wanted me to summarize my thoughts on the project and answer a narrative question on leadership.

I put a lot of time and effort into completing the challenge (they only give you 24 hours) and was told that they would be getting back to me soon with the next steps. I waited a while before following up with the recruiter but I didn't receive a response. Lo and behold, I wasn't contacted for the next 2 weeks. They ended up telling me that they would be pausing hiring for that position.

Overall, I had a very disappointing experience. I was very interested in the role and NationBuilder as an organization, but it was very frustrating being left in the dark for so long. I just wish that they would have been more considerate of me.
