Long process (about 1 month-1.5 month from first convo) with several interviews ranging from teammates to CEO. They make you do a challenge using their own platform to see how well you can manage it.

My story is like several here. The company followed up quickly to set up a phone screen. Was moved to the next step quickly as well, 24 hours to complete a technical interview: create a NationBuilder "nation" complete with website copy, user sign up steps, dummy data and linked social media profiles. I completed this and was moved on to a 2nd interview; an hour and a half long with 2 managers on the Customer Support team. Both were very positive and engaged people. Advanced to the next step, another hour interview with VP of People and Operations. Again, a really positive experience. After being asked to complete these 4 rounds and many hours of their interview process, the company completely ghosted me. I sent thank you emails, follow up emails, all the usual decency expected from job seekers. And every time, my emails to the team went completely ignored. It's all the more disappointing because again, I really each interview and the managers really sold me on how important being decent and human was to their process. Just not important enough to do the bare minimum and let applicants know they are out of the running after taking them through 4 rounds of interviews. I'm under no illusions that any of these reviews will have any impact on their practices, as they clearly don't care about their reputation here on glassdoor.

Applied online and had a video call interview shortly after. Interviewer was very pleasant, and asked a sufficient number of questions. A decision was delivered shortly after. Although the official email was vague and offered no feedback or insight, the interviewer did offer feedback after I contacted them directly, which was helpful. But I think this situation was unique as I already had their contact info. For candidates who don't, they may not get the same benefit. For people to grow, feedback is important, and I appreciate that this company offered that.

I sent in the application, and HR reached out to me to schedule a phone screening. I didn't get any response to my email when I provided times and dates that would work out

They reached out to me through a recruiting platform. The first interview was a screen with the hiring manager, then a short and fairly simple take home, followed by a code review. Then an interview with their HR (or trendy modern equivalent) where I gave my life story. Followed by an interview with a senior developer, followed by another interview with another manager. That was followed by an interview with the VP of engineering and finally an interview with the VP of people.

The interview process had many stages, but it moved quickly. I submitted my resume and cover letter. 2 days later I heard back and had my first phone interview scheduled. A few days later I had a short video call with an Engineering Manager and a Software Engineer. A few days after that I had a technical screen via webinar with 2 engineers. Next I had a video call with the VP of Engineering. After that I was invited to visit the office in L.A. I had a full day of interviews where I met with many people both on and off site (via video chat). The onsite interview included a 2nd technical test. A few days later I received an offer over the phone. The whole process took about 5 weeks.

Questions d'entretien
  • List your previously held positions and what you learned about yourself from each position.
  • The first technical test included adding features and refactoring a small application in a language of my choosing while 2 engineers watched and were available for questions over a webinar.
  • The 2nd technical test included reviewing a small codebase and discussing how best to implement a specific feature request.

Very thorough. All video calls. All interviewers were thoughtful, empathetic, great communicators and genuinely want to add to their company culture in a positive way THUSLY impacting our Worldwide Leaders, Positively. Everyone speaks with CEO Lea as well; which I thought was wonderful. So many great things to say about this company and those who get to work for it. Only negatives: HR processes were slow and I often had to ping for updates in the 4 months I interviewed several times.

I went through a phone interview, a technical challenge, a video interview, travelled an hour and a half to two in person interviews in DC, then had two more video interviews, the last of which was scheduled only about 12-16 hours in advance, just to get rejected over the phone in the end. Talked with a manager, multiple VPs, and the CEO. Everyone I spoke to was very nice, but that's kind of an insane process for a low level, $20 an hour job. An incredible waste of time. I jumped through many, many, hoops for them over an entire month. The whole thing was just strange. I was told they have trouble finding the right people to work there and I can see why. I hope this isn't how they run the rest of their business - I can't imagine they get anything done even remotely quickly. Like I said, everyone was extremely kind and I had great conversations with them, but I'm just confused. Six interviews with five people plus a 24 hour assignment is a bit much, especially for a position that pays barely a living wage.

Slow, not very well-thought-out process with an infuriating ending. First I had three one-hour video interviews with various engineering managers, then I was flown out to Los Angeles for an all-day series of on-site interviews. The video interviews went well, fairly easy technical questions like "refactor this piece of code." The on-site interview process was a disaster: four interviews with five people, all for "culture fit," all of whom asked the same questions. Complete waste of time. There was a fifth interview scheduled, another technical one, but they rejected me before that point. Funny thing was that they told me that they had no doubt I'd be able to do the job well, so, what other criteria even matter? Anyway don't bother, from the rest of the reviews on here (which I wish I had seen first) it looks like I dodged a bullet anyway. Another small tech company convinced their web app is going to revolutionize humanity, and won't hire people who don't drink the kool-aid.

As others have mentioned, the interview process is PAINFULLY slow, and the recruiter who reached out was extremely unresponsive. I applied for one job, was declined a month later after they filled the role but the recruiter suggested I apply to a second, different role. I did, responded the same day, and didn't hear back for almost a month... even then, it was after forwarding the email to try and circumvent her inbox filtering - that's the thread we worked through. I finally got connected with the Head of Product, we had a video call, and I discovered the role was quite different than the posting, with significantly more tech experience preferred. I felt like I was a good fit for the job desc, but not after talking with the hiring manager. Also, maybe because my qualifications didn't match so well, I got the vibe that the hiring manager was not very interested in learning about my experience... like she wasn't really listening or had some other candidate in mind or something. So the whole thing felt like a waste of time in the end. Anyways, all that adds up to a pretty awful experience overall. I was pretty excited to try and get inside NationBuilder, but this left a pretty nasty taste in my mouth. :(
