I live in London but was applying for a job in Berlin. I applied online.

I first had to complete a code challenge. The code challenge difficulty was very well pitched, I had to think about it a lot but it was perfectly achievable with some application.

After the challenge, I had to wait a while for feedback. I think that this is mostly down to the fact that it was August and a lot of people were on vacation.

I had a Google Hangouts interview. with the engineering manager and tech lead, which lasted an hour. Very quickly after this interview they asked me for a second interview with the wider team.

Thankfully I was in Berlin shortly after this, so my second interview was in person. It was with three developers in the Native Instruments offices. We had a very interesting conversation about my technical ability and my ideal way of working, as well as challenges I had faced in previous companies. I also had a tour of the offices and a quick chat with a hiring manager about start date etc.

After this interview, I was offered a job.

Two weeks after I applied via the web form I got an invite to a Skype interview with an engineering manager and the head of the new data infrastructure team. The interview was very nice and we talked about the role and the challenges for this new position. I got immediate feedback two hours after the interview, followed by an invitation to the office for the next week.

The on site interview was divided into two parts, the first part was with a senior recruiting specialist together with the director of the engineering department, and the second part was with two engineers. I assume the first part was to test my fit with the company, e.g. we talked a lot about the agile structure, my experience in teams, and what good quality standards are.
The second part of the interview was more about the technical challenges of the role, especially the infrastructure and dataflow design. The engineering manager guided me to the different rooms and we had some nice talk after the two interview sessions.

Overall I evaluate my interview experience with NI extraordinary positive. All people that I met there were really nice and created a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I got the impression that everyone read my résumé and they tried not to repeat the questions from the previous interviews.

Long process, didn't get the job, but overall it was a very positive experience.

First stage was an written assignment in which I had to answer several questions about the product design process and my vision on how product design for Native Instruments should work.

After the assignment I had 2 different Skype interviews, both of them with the team lead of industrial design, together with several other people from the team and HR.

The next step was a visit to the company in Berlin where I met several members of different design teams over several hours. Each meeting had a different approach, from small assignments within a small team, till meetings with a bigger group discussing my previous work experience and the job and company. I got the feeling everybody I met had read my resume, assignment and seen my portfolio which was a really pleasant experience. The assignment and discussions all felt very natural, like a talk with co-workers about projects you collaboratively working on.

After the interview I was informed I wasn't going to be hired within a week. Which is of course not the good news I was hoping for, but it came with honest feedback about the reasons why.

My overall experience with the company, people and team is positive, and if a vacancy came up which would suit me better, I would apply again.

My only negative point of feedback would be the length of the process, which took over 3 months.

The first step was to complete a programming assignment in C++ of medium difficulty (as often there was a simple solution and a more involved one), in 1-2 weeks at home.

An on-site interview followed at the Native Instruments Berlin Office. I was interviewed by two software developer leads about C++ and general programming concepts. After I received positive feedback for the interview, I was invited to the last interviews, again on-site. First I was interviewed by my potential team and HR and afterwards again by two software developer leads. The process was very smooth, with very fast responses from the hiring management. The atmosphere during the application process was relaxed and focused. The people I met were great. All in all I liked it very much.

They asked me to create a command line client with a movie system recommendation. After one month (!) they answered me with a poor feedback about the solution.
In the problem description, they said: "There is no "perfect" solution for this problem and there are many ways to try to solve it. Don't try to guess what we think is a good solution." but in the email they said: "your solution failed to answer the actual challenge set". They didn't provide any further feedback about it.

My advice: Don't lose your time.

The interview with NI was a 3 stage process. First they were 2 skype interviews and then a visit in Berlin to meet the team in person. The whole process lasted less than a month and was a very pleasant experience compared to the other interviews I had at the same time with a few other companies around Europe.

I've first applied for the position from LinkedIn and then Katy from HR started the communication and arranged the first skype interview which was a mix of technical and HR. The first interview was a brief introduction with the head of HW, a senior engineer from the HW team and HR. That was a generic and easy-going conversation about previous experience and my current role at the time. We were all experienced and established a good communication very fast; therefore I got the feeling that there's a good chemistry and I felt that this is going to work for both sides. Therefore, we didn't spend too much time in non meaningful questions and skill digging, which I found very pleasing. To resume, when 3 experienced and skilled people sit together on a table and having a discussion, it would just take a few minutes to establish a common ground and understand each other. That's what happened and it was very refreshing compared to other interviews I had which followed patterns that they don't really work if you want to hire a good engineer. The interview lasted for about an hour.

The second skype interview was only technical and it was on the same tempo, which I would describe as a coffee break discussion among engineers who share their experiences. That also lasted for about an hour.

The third interview was on the company's site in Berlin. There I've met also other members of the team from HW and product management and I've seen the site. I had to sign an NDA and everything was pleasant. I've felt comfortable with everyone. Again, the discussion wasn't in depth technical. I've already figured out the project and their needs before go there, so we didn't have to spend much time on explaining things to each other. The outcome was most positive, it seems a nice environment and all the people I've met where open and friendly.

Anyway, the key points are that the interview was pleasant and I think that we didn't got consumed in non meaningful things, which sadly has become the norm nowadays. Easy going procedure in general. HR team is great and Katy was very helpful during the whole process.

Finally, it's the first time that I'm writing an interview review and the reason is that I do this is because I do actually have a lot of positive things to write.

Two interviews with general manager and design manager. Firstly they explained the daily operational tasks and then it got more granular on the design role. What my expectations were and how the day to day worked.

Is short: they ask you to invest 4 hours of your time and it is likely that you will get only boilerplate replies from them.

First of all Native Instruments sends you the task to complete. They ways that you should not spend more then 4 hours. After that the keep quite for 2 weeks until you do a couple of follow ups and then they send standard rejections email. You have no way to explain the reasoning behind you design and thinking.
My takeaway: never waste your time on tasks before you spoke with a person who will evaluate your works and you know that he/she is reasonable human being.

At first I received a small and easy coding homework. After that I got an email asking for interview date proposals. I sent my available dates around 8 hours later and didn't hear back anymore.

I wrote one additional unanswered email and called twice. During the first call I was told that the person would look into it and come back to me asap, which never happened. By the second call I got actually connected with the person who asked for interview dates. My application "had gotten lost somehow" and the job position had been filled in the mean time. I might get contacted in the future for jobs.
