The interview process was multi-staged where I first met with an HR representative and moved on to interview with my hiring manager. I communicated over the phone and through google hangouts for various parts of the process.

After applying through stack overflow, they reached me out after 2 months. There was a initial phone screening, then a link with python quiz which contains 15 MCQ's to be answered in 30 minutes. I'm given as much time as needed. But I completed the quiz after 3 days of their email. Then the next round is a technical round through a video call which is on the immediate next day.

    Entretien

I found the open position for Paris team on Glassdoor. This was the initial interview with a HR person (Celine).
It was a very positive experience, especially for someone who tries to break into the industry and didn't have many interviews. There were general questions about my goals, the stack I would love to work with and if I knew something about Platform.sh.
Then there was a coding assignment that I had to complete (15 questions) I completed it in the same day.
A screening with an engineer should have followed, but after a few days , I sent an email asking for updates on the process. I've been told that they decided to go with someone else.
I would have loved to be part of the team, loved everything I read about the company.
The problem is I have not accumulated enough experience till now, working on it...
But this was a start for me, a very good experience.

    I just got friend-zoned.

Interviewed by the VP of People quickly after I submit my resume (that was a good thing).
The first part was in English and the second one in French because I asked for it.
The interview was about how well I was handling my current job, what was the drawbacks and the good points being a remote worker, what was my tempered at work.
Then the VP asked my failures and how would I redo the past if I could.
After this she presented the company very well and told some insider insights about the startup and the Marketing team.
I asked 2 questions, one about content production and another on the next steps.
At end of the 40 minutes I told how great HR she was and how pleased I was about the interview (I could see on her face the smile she got all along go away) and she stammered a little about the fact it went well and waved goodbye.

Because she said I was welcome to ask anything by mail, I did. But as some other candidates said, you don’t get answers easily.
I could see mails were opened (thanks to a Tracker) but not answered (I only sent 1 email per week for 3 weeks).

She finally answered to my last email ( which was asking if ignoring was a way for saying no) saying I wasn’t a good fit and that they went with another profil (I saw the offer published again 2 days before this answer, and 10days and another 16 days). I asked a last question about what I could improve and she said nothing in my case and that I just wasn’t the perfect person for them.

Because I don’t apply for jobs in general this experience was a bit disturbing. I wasn’t used to that much ignorance afterwards but I can get that saying « it’s a no go for us because you’re not a perfect fit » isn’t easy even for that person with that much experience in HR. I don’t take it personally , because I could not feel the electricity I get when I really really see how badly I want to work with somebody.

I first had a quick interview with an HR person.
After that, I was invited to an online multiple choice test where I was only allowed to use my mouse and the test would instantly fail if I pressed a key on my keyboard.
The next interview was a technical one with someone from their engineering team.
Overall the interview was pretty awkward. The video and audio quality was extremely bad (constantly lagging and feedback) so it was very hard to even understand the questions.

    Entretien de DevOps/SRE

Candidat à l'entretien anonyme - Toronto, ON (Canada)
    Aucune offre d'embauche
    Expérience négative
    Difficulté moyenne

    Candidature

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris +4 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Platform.sh (Toronto, ON (Canada)) en septembre 2018.

    Entretien

The process started out great. I enjoyed the discussion with the recruiter and it was helpful.

That was followed by the technical screen which was, IMO, amateurish. As described by someone else, it was a multiple choice python quiz. Be careful to press the right button, as the [BIG RED BUTTON] is equivalent to "I don't know". (I hit the wrong button several times by mistake.)

I was actually surprised when I learned that I was going to the next steps as Python isn't my strongest language and I thought I'd flunked it for sure.

The next interview with a team member was technical, uneventful and went well.

The third interview was to be with a technical leader. We had a difficult time communicating over the link to meet.google.com unfortunately. The audio was terrible, video was impossible. I finally called in via telephone and we made arrangements to meet another time. (I later found with traceroute that a router upstream was dropping a significant number of packets.)

About ten minutes into the time scheduled for our next meeting, I sent an email asking where he was and received an email from them saying "I had an emergency and I am not able to attend our talk. I'll will contact you shortly."

I did NOT hear from them "shortly". I sent several emails over several days, finally CC'ing the recruiter. The recruiter apologized and set up the next appointment for about a week later.

The time for the next appointment came and went with nobody showing up. No email this time explaining why. I sent off an email after about 15 minutes of waiting (roughly 3:15pm their time in Paris). The recruiter sent me an email the next day; apparently another "emergency" happened and the interviewer couldn't make it (or even communicate that fact). The recruiter apologized saying "We will put on hold our recruitment process as we need to improve our process here."

    Indeed.

I did hear back from the interviewer with an apology several days later (interview on Tuesday, apology on Friday), but then suggesting that it was my fault. "..your internet connection was horrible and we weren't really able to communicate."

I think the failure to communicate originated at their end.. I can certainly understand "emergencies", but not their failure to communicate -- and then to try to blame it on me? Come on..

It's a shame. It looks like an interesting company otherwise, but communication is an important part of a remote first company and it appears that they don't understand that..

It was just screening call by lady from the company. I tried to explain my curriculum, which is bit special, so I tried to relate to their requirements. Then I asked couple of questions, then I noted that we have reached the end of interview time so I have no further questions. The lady say OK, thanks and hung up. It was bit surprising because I expected either some resolution or some info about next steps. Never heard of them after - I guess I was not match, but at least like to hear that from them. In my application I was quite honest about my skills, so if they decided to speak with me I would expect at least some conclusion.

    Entretien de Customer Successes Engineer

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 3 semaines. J'ai passé un entretien à Platform.sh (Johannesburg (Afrique du Sud)) en mars 2019.

The interview is conducted in 3 parts. The first initial interview is with the HR person and that was just to get to understand you as a possible contender. It was done all online and very informal. I got the feeling that this was just to get an idea if you will be a fit for the company culture.

The second part is conducted by some of your peers and this is a technical assessment. This was very fair and a broad range of technical skill are tested. This I would assume will depend on the type of role that you are applying for will determine the type of technical test.

The last is feedback on your application again conducted by the HR person. This is great as very few companies take the time to provide you with feedback.

To me this is the best part of the interview as very few companies take the time to provide feedback.

Luck for me i got the position which Im very great-full for but even if i did not the fact that Platform.sh take the time to provide feedback to you is much appreciated and can help you going forward.
