I submitted my application and was contacted via email by the HR manager to set up a phone interview. The HR director was very engaging and informative during the phone interview. Her explanation of the company and and position was fantastic! She set up a video interview with me with the hiring manager for several days later. The questions asked during the video interview didn't exactly align with the skills requested in the job listing. The scope of the position as explained in the job listing seemed narrower than what the interview questions indicated. The video interview process was quite awkward. As I spoke, the hiring manager was turned away from the camera typing. Taking notes is an important part of the interview process for a hiring manager, but the way this was done made the interview feel very impersonal and didn't facilitate a conversational atmosphere. I have had quite a few video interviews and this is the first time an interviewer was looking away from the camera as I spoke.
