J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Rowman & Littlefield (Silver Spring, MD) en janv. 2023
The interview followed a phone screening call and lasted an hour over zoom. I met with both the Acquisitions Editor and her former assistant. I did not receive the job offer (nor any notice of any kind).
- Asked about my experience, why I wanted to work in publishing, and availability.

One phone interview with HR followed by a Zoom interview; not very difficult or confrontational. Interviewed with two editors and then later interviewed with a separate editor who were all pleasant
- Describe a past situation when you had to learn an entirely new process.

I began with a short phone screen with a woman from HR. She asked simple questions about my experience, education etc. I was told that I would hear back in a week if there was interest. A week later I received an email from a Senior Executive Editor, asking to meet for a short video interview. I was told at the conclusion of the interview that I sounded like a perfect candidate for the position and that I would hear back within a week. I sent a thank you email after the interview and about two weeks passed and I did not get any followup. I sent another email asking if there were any updates on the hiring process and I was told that there was a slight delay and that it would resume in the following days. I was also told to rest assured that I was still a candidate and would hear back soon. It has been over a month and I have yet to receive any emails. I understand that the interviewing process takes time, however, I do not think it is appropriate to tell a person that they are a good candidate for a job and then never follow-up with them, even if they will not be receiving the position. Overall an unprofessional and disappointing process.
- Q: Why are you interested in publishing? Q: Favorite academic book?

I had a phone interview with an HR person. Asked basic questions about the position. They said they would get back in a week and then I never heard back from them.
- Why do you want to work in publishing?

The interview was pretty short. There was a video interview. But gave no feedback on samples that were sent. They stopped responding to emails altogether after I sent work over for review.
- Mostly about past experience and job description

The interview process was fairly quick. Dawn at HR had no problem answering any of my questions or clearly outlining th ehiring process. Even applying from a non-local area they made the process welcoming and easy, scheduling video interviews and reaching out to my recommendors.
- How do you balance a heavy, every changing work flow?

I appreciated how quickly everything happened (response to application, scheduling of interview, etc.) and how friendly everyone was, both over email and in person. There was a proofreading test that was fairly straightforward. Overall a pleasant experience.
- How do you handle stress?

J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris plus d'une semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez Rowman & Littlefield (Lanham, MD) en oct. 2015
Applied on a Sunday night online and HR called me the next day to set up a phone interview with the editorial team for two days later. They asked for my references and then started calling those. Said they would finishing up interviewing other candidates throughout the week and I would hopefully know by the next week.
- Typical questions about my previous experience and how the experience prepared me for this position.

HR will generally set up with a phone interview with the managing editor. If they like you, they'll bring you in for an in-person interview. I was hired rather quickly as the current employee was leaving the country and only had a few days to train me. There's a high rate of turnover, so if you're not selected for a particular opening, there's a good chance you can reapply in the near future for another position.
- Most typical interview questions. They like you to speak a lot. Be sure to be able to speak about your favorite books or what led you to publishing. Looking for unique answers.

J'ai postulé en personne. Le processus a pris 1 semaine. J'ai passé un entretien chez Rowman & Littlefield (Lanham, MD) en mars 2013
I interviewed with the vice president of production, the manufacturing director and the manufacturing associate whom I would be assisting on a regular basis. It was held in a small conference room and was a little intimidating but they were all so kind and made me feel at ease. If I stumbled on a question they diffused my nerves by making a joke or helping me along.
- Describe a real life professional scenario that helped to prepare you for this position.
