    Phone interview with Recruiter, then in-person interview with leadership team in the San Francisco office.

    I was impressed with the company's commitment to culture. Everyone seems to repeat the same thing about how important culture is, work life balance, and taking care of people. The interview panel were all very nice, but unfortunate to find out after that it was all an act.

    Each interviewer was setup to be a 30 minute discussion. Unfortunately, the last person on the panel only took 15 minutes. It seemed as though going into the interview, the interviewer had already made up her mind that I was not the right person for the job. She basically asked me 1 question about my background, and said that I've been here long enough, and I should get going.

    12 hours later, I received a rejection email that I was no longer being considered for the role. Not even the courtesy of calling me to inform me of the decision.

    So all the culture stuff is an act, in reality they have a lot of start-up growing pains but no idea how to solve or bring the company to the next level. Salary is also below market as well.

    The process was clear and well articulated in the beginning and throughout each step. The recruiter shared the interviewers’ LinkedIn profiles which helped a lot and there are enough articles online about the organization to help research the company and employees.

    I had a first round call with a HR manager and then she sent me the assignment to complete. The assignment was not relevant to the position responsibilities but rather a test if you understood the overall business.

    I applied online, was contacted by HR for a screening. First off the HR person I was in touch with kept scheduling our call for times I explicitly said I was not available and when I asked her if we could move she said that was the only time she could do. So I accommodate her request for an 8 am call. Day of the call comes, 10 mins before I get an email from a colleague of hers that she has to cancel due to an emergency and they will be in touch to reschedule. Annoying but things happen. I give her 2 days or so to see if she will reschedule, no word, so I email to reschedule and I get an OOO for the following 10 days. I email the person referenced in the OOO, finally able to schedule the first call (after almost 2 weeks at this point form the first time we were in touch). After the call, I am asked to send several copies of work samples to the team for review and that the original HR person I was supposed to touch base with will follow up. I email after a few days and all I was told was that at that point the marketing VP was OOO and they would get back to me (meanwhile receiving requests for access to my google drive the same day I provided the samples from other people). Never heard back. Worst HR management and completely lost interest in even engaging with them. Rude, disrespectful of people's time, and extremely unorganized. Do not suggest wasting your time.

    Passed HR screen and went onsite. Met with a mid-level manager who couldn’t resonate exactly what processes were in place for an AE to be successful. Was set to meet with VP, Sales who showed up 30minutes late, had not looked at my resume, and didnt offer any insightful Q+A other than a high level pitch of Smartly and what they “hope” to build. I felt like I was teaching rather than getting interviewed.

    Advice: Team is still in the figuring it out stage. If you get in, you can probably grow quickly because they have no processes which means you can potentially move up the ladder quickly by closing deals and bringing in creative ideas from the bottom up.

    Recruiter emailed me with phone interview timeframe options. I clicked on the link which said it was no longer valid (only a few hours after his email). I emailed the recruiter to set up a time. He eventually responded. Then on the day of, no show. I followed up with an email and no response. Pretty inconsiderate as having to take time out during the workday for a call that didn't happen and without an email from the company cancelling it.

    The process is basically designed so that they do not need to invest anything in on-barding you. However, the catch is is that they don't let you know that until you have invested a lot of time into that process. They are generally very cold and off putting.

    The interview process at Smartly.io was a mix of fun but challenging as it was evident they were looking for a perfect fit for the candidate as well as the company. They look for individuals who are extremely passionate about furthering his/her own learning as well as growing with the company.

    Similar to what others have mentioned (for almost any position), the process consisted of about 5 steps (1 - Intro Phone Call with HR/Hiring Manager, 2 - Solve a technical puzzle, 3 - In-person Interview about Facebook concepts, 4 - Product Demo, 5 - Call with Leadership Team.

    The interview process is longer and more rigorous than other processes I have gone through, however, it is for good reason. In addition to the time they provide you to learn the concepts and product, this process provide a great representation of the day-to-day responsibilities as well as the culture of the company. At the end of each step of the process, I was provided with 2-way feedback, which I really valued. If you are already working in the industry or interested, this process provides a lot of valuable insight even if you don't get the job.

    Overall, I had a lot of fun going through the process and learned more than I could have imagined in such a short period of time. The culture of the company (especially Transparency) is evident whilst speaking to employees within the company and second to none. I wish other companies had a similar process.

    Recruiter reached out and then every single step of the process was a mess and waste of my time. They would schedule a call with me and then the person in Europe would call me at 3am my time instead. Happened on almost every single step and they would not show up on the scheduled call multiple times even though I woke up at 6 or 7AM to attend it.

    I stopped the interview process myself because the company seemed like one I did not want to work at. The recruiter still reaches out all the time. What a bad sign.

    Applied online and received a note from HR saying they would like to speak to me via Skype. Dialed into the call and waited for 5-10 minutes. Nothing. I sent an email asking if they were still available and received a response saying the guy had a conflict and needed to reschedule. Rescheduled for another day and received a cancellation the morning of the call. Rescheduled another Skype call. Dial in at the rescheduled time and waited about 20 minutes. Nothing. Sent HR another email asking if they were going to dial in. Get an apology the next day saying they were tied up. Rescheduled again and finally connected. Had a productive discussion and was told they would reach out with next steps. Then they ghosted me. The way this interview process was conducted was ridulous and if it's a representation of the Smartly.IO culture, I'm thinking I dodged a bullet.
