Having lots of experience in the restaurant industry as well as retail and customer service, I felt like working for Toast could be a great opportunity to switch out of managing restaurants. It’s a newer company which I was already familiar with, and very familiar with its biggest competitor.
The initial recruiter who set up my first over the phone was great. Called on time, we spoke for awhile. She said she’d email me more information about Toast Inc, so I could be prepared for my next interview, and set up a phone interview with the Toast District Manager in my Sacramento area for two days later at noon.
I never received information as promised, but received a call from the recruiter the morning of my second interview -3 hrs before it was scheduled.
I missed said call because I was saying goodbye to my son at daycare (and not anticipating the call at that time). The recruiter left a vm apologizing for not emailing the information and to call her back. I called her back and with no answer, left a vm. Didn’t receive a call back, however I was sent a PI test to take from the recruiter VIA email. It was completed within minutes as I’ve used this before in my own hiring process in recruiting for the restaurants I managed.
From this point on I was never contacted again. The recruiter didn’t acknowledge my vm and call back, nor did I receive an email reguarding the PI test.
The frustrating part was I was prepared for a phone call at noon from the Toast DM, and set up morning daycare for my son to have my house quiet (which isn’t exactly difficult, but extra days cost me). I never received this call, nor any other form of communication.
I’ve been in multiple positions where I’ve had to hire/recruit employees, and would never set up a phone call and never contact the person AT ALL.
Seems disorganized. No sure if this is the responsibility of the DM or if the recruiter didn’t notify her of the interview (however on the phone she said she was sending it to the DMs calendar, perhaps on Outlook or something).

Work history, sales history, examples of ways you’d find and capture new clients, standard questions
I’m sorry for the disorganized interview process and hiccups in communication. This was clearly an issue of internal alignment. I will work with the team to better understand what went awry so that we can improve our process moving forward. Thank you for sharing! - Mike Brown, VP Talent

Extremely tedious. Made it to the final interview and the person who would have been my boss was extremely robotic and had zero hospitality experience. It was so incredibly off putting and surprising that it completely threw me off my game.

Question 1
Wanted me to answer how I would approach a business owner, and the correct answer was to follow their script. As someone who approached hospitality owners all day every day, especially in LA, that's about the worst thing you can do.

The process was so quick. Jasmine my recruiter walked me step by step and was always communicating with me. The interview and presentation was not easy but so satisfying when I got an offer. Thank you team!

Very odd interview process. I applied for the job online and received an automated email from the recruiter to schedule a time for the first interview. The earliest availability was over 3 weeks away, which seemed odd to me. I emailed the recruiter to confirm that it was the earliest availability, and he never responded. Fast forward 3 weeks to the interview... the recruiter was extremely cold and seemed a bit unprepared for our call. At the end of the call, the recruiter said he would follow up with me to let me know if I made it to the next round. I sent a follow up email thanking the recruiter for his time later that afternoon (after 5:00pm) and received an OOO message stating that he would be gone for the next 2 weeks?? Why would they schedule an interview 3 weeks in advance, the day before the recruiter is going on vacation??? I didn't end up getting another interview, but I don't think I had a fair chance based on the scheduling alone. I ended up following up with his manager because I wanted to get some feedback. She was quick to respond and nice, but overall I got a bad taste in my mouth about Toast based on the interview process.
