Off the top of my head...

They want to maximize the monetary value of their time and effort. The opportunity cost of lines forming, and therefore time wasted, cuts into bottom line. If the area is busy (which I am assuming it is), costs are for the most part constant (workers pay, rent) while profits are influenced by efficiency, efficiency is increased with multiple stores. Over the long run I would assume this increases their margins. They also make profit from competitive takeaways and increasing their market share in the specific area in which the stores are located...

That is all I can think of if I was asked RIGHT NOW.
