Genzyme is very supportive of a work-life balance. There is never an issue with taking time off for family obligations, a child's illness, or doctors appointments.
The downside of Genzyme is the lack of equity lower-level employees have in the company. Prior to being sold to Sanofi, Genzyme has a very generous Employee Stock Purchase Plan. I can only imagine what Genzyme shares would be worth today.
Conseils à la direction
Start mentoring your employee so they will be ready and able to move up the corporate ladder. There is no mentor program and advancing is very difficult in many departments. I have been at Genzyme for 10 years and have seen employees receive 3 or 4 promotions in less years than it took me to be promoted once. This is very demotivating and leads to employees just going through their daily routine and not taking initiative to learn more or excel in their current position.
