    Avantages

    I am laughing at the idea of "pros" with this company

    Inconvénients

    - All the benefits are a sham. Imagine the standard 401k match and divide it by one hundred. Though they reserve the right not to match at all on a yearly basis, and don't let employees know until the end of the year.

    - Legitimately do not give raises and/or performance reviews. This deserves special attention, given they operate in an expensive area where the cost of living constantly is increasing. Most companies provide a simple cost of living raise annually, regardless of performance. This company won't give you a cost of living raise if you outperform expectations.

    - Cheapest health coverage. Most companies usually give pre-tax dollars to an employees on HSA to get them to the deductible. Scandinavian Designs does not.

    - They lie, a lot. Was told I'd get a vacation I'd already planned before starting the job covered. Then they docked my paycheck. See below for why.

    - They treat exempt status as something to be earned at HQ for some reason, rather than the table stakes it is for every successful company in the world. Because the PTO accrual is the lowest legally you can provide and you don't start accruing PTO for the first three months, you get your pay docked if you have a family emergency or say, a pre-planned vacation that the company told you would be fine.

    - The company is run by the founder's two sons. One example of how this plays out is the parking. Two sons park right in front, every other employee parks in the lot that's about a five minute walk into HQ. They have literally raffled off a front parking space during Christmas parties—a 3 month use, then back to the lot.

    - They are a furniture reseller. They don't "design" anything.

    - I'd say that there's little room to try anything new, and creativity and innovation are frowned upon, but who cares even.

    - Leadership often notes that non-white ethnic groups like certain kinds of furniture. Not in a kind way.

    - Not surprisingly, zero interest in corporate responsibility or standing for anything. Cowered away/laughed off the thought of supporting Black Lives Matter.

    - Payroll errors all the time, barely coherent HR department.

    - All of this is reflected in a high amount of turnover, particularly in HQ where people get fed up and leave, simultaneously with no action plan to backfill.

    - Laid people off at the onset of COVID-19, but left it vague so people had to scramble to confirm whether they needed to apply for unemployment. Have forced HQ and store teams back as quickly as possible, demanding 40 hours a week in the office with little to no regard for employee child care.

    - They made homemade hand sanitizer with fake labels as some sort of mitigating attempt when people returned to the office—nobody knows if it's even a disinfectant or safe to use since they are hair spray bottles with labels printed from the HQ printer.

    - Terribly run at every level.

    Entretien

    Did a quick phone interview with my potential boss, then I was invited to come in for an in-person interview. The in-person was about 3 hours where I met with HR, the creative department, and one of the owners. I was then asked to complete a design project (at home) and send it back within a few days.
