    Entretien de Product Analytics Manager

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien à Waymo.

Very aggressive and unprofessional Recruiting team. Although it is against the law in California to inquire about salary history, the recruiter I worked with carefully navigated around this by intensely pressuring me to share salary expectations prior to coming onsite (after clearing multiple phone screens and being invited for next steps to meet the Product Analytics team in person). I was congratulated on being invited to onsite interviews but what immediately followed was a tense exchange on salary. At one point the recruiter stated "its better to share your expectations now so that we don't do this whole song and dance after you come onsite and we potentially reach an offer stage".

I was floored. I felt I was negotiating pay before even meeting the team and knowing whether I was even a good fit for this team or wanted the job in the first place! I expressed my concerns to the recruiter. She was very pushy and insisted it would be a waste of time to move forward "because multiple candidates have dropped out after onsite stage due to misaligned expectations". I eventually caved and shared a number. I was told the number was well out of bounds but negotiable. I didn't hear back from the recruiter for almost 10 days before getting a note letting me know that they have decided to move in a different direction with other candidates so we would no longer be doing onsite interviews.

Needless to say that Waymo has a lot of work to do when it comes to candidate experience, as well as training their talent team on what they should and should not demand from prospectives hires as a condition to appear onsite. While they may not have directly crossed a legal boundary, ethical ones certainly were.

I would never interview here again. If this was a peek at what the culture at Waymo is like, it's not one that I have any desire to be a part of.

Shame. As for the actual Product Analyst that also separately interviewed me, I have nothing but good things to say. He was thorough, asked excellent questions of his prospective new manager and I truly felt I would be working with a sharp and bright team.
