Avantages
I met some amazing friends and coworkers at this company. Most of the employees are wonderful people and I still talk with many of them. That is partly what makes the cons so much more disappointing.
Inconvénients
The owner of this company has no respect or appreciation for his employees. He even repeatedly calls you by the wrong name which is extra surprising considering there were only around 25 employees when I was there. I used to joke that he started the company so that he could order someone to bring him coffee, which is does daily, and then tell you that you did it wrong. A few examples to demonstrate his character: I was there as the company was really starting to explode, and we broke the monthly sales record by a large margin. Brian showed up, made no comment on the success, and instead wanted to show off his new (and second) Mercedes. I recall he was really excited about the room in the back and the self parking feature. During that same year, a record breaking year, we had the company Christmas party. His compliments of some employees came at the price of breaking down someone else. He also forgot to mention and thank his entire tech team and administrative team. He didn't even recognize their existence. Again, this is a small company. We are all friends. It was inappropriate and unacceptable. Brian is driven by one thing...money. He wants as much of it as he can get. He is VERY good at putting on a display of generosity, but the longer you are around him and see how he does business, you realize that it is not always generosity for the sake of goodness. Rather, he seems to spend the smallest amount he can to create the image of philanthropy/sustainability, and he is very good at it. It's part of his branding and marketing, and it has clearly worked well. I recognize that some good is still coming from this, but don't be deceived as this will not be your working experience. He will pay you as little as he can and justify it as "good compensation for the region." For the record, I don't think Brian is a terrible person. I think he struggles to connect with people and I think the success of his company has likely influenced his character and self image. I don't wish him ill will and I hope that some positive change can come from this review. As mentioned in the Pros, a lot of my favorite people work there still, and I want them to succeed in their respective careers and have a healthy working environment.
