Inconvénients
Upper management lied through their teeth for a year about not reducing the work from home program. I now consider them to be fundamentally untrustworthy and will be viewing any further statements from them through that lens. The action itself will force out a lot of good, high-performing employees (“associates”) who have built lives outside Lansing and Grand Rapids. Corporate projects get rammed through even if they have major flaws. Regulatory compliance is an afterthought and unpaid overtime is expected even when it isn’t explicitly asked for. Upper management will probably continue offshoring jobs without realizing this doesn’t fix a bad product. Salary increases do not keep up with cost of living, but Auto-Owners is more than willing to shell out hundreds of millions on its real estate holdings instead of downsizing and allowing WFH to continue uninterrupted. Auto-Owners is committed to DEI only insofar as shelling out money to consultants for cringeworthy training videos. Hiring practices have clearly not been updated- the Lansing offices are overwhelmingly white in a diverse city with one of the biggest colleges in the country next door. To the HR person reading this: I sympathize with you but I am not interested in communicating with you further unless I can do so over anonymous email.
