Inconvénients
I absolutely loved this job....for the first two weeks of training. Life at Premex after the training is like hell! Managers are the most god awful human beings I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. They have one priority - themselves. Manager is sick? Paid day off. Manager's car has broken down? Work from home. Manager smokes? 20 minute paid cigarette break 6, 7, 8 times a day - spending more time at the smoking shelter than at their desk. Of course, none of the peasantry level staff members (the ones that actually keep the place running) get any of these benefits! No paid sick days until 2 years of service, no opportunity to work from home - who cares if your car has broken down, you'll have to take the day off unpaid, you're not a a manager! Cigarette breaks will have to be taken off your strictly monitored 10 minutes of personal break...let's hope you don't need the toilet today because if you go even 1 second over that 10 minutes, your entire team will know about it when you get shamed in the daily email that gets sent out. Managers DO have their favorites and you will be made very aware of this by the bullying you will face if you're not one of the lucky chosen ones. They will monitor your every move, waiting to pounce the second you come back from your dinner a minute late or your productivity slips to 99%. They WILL suffocate you with warnings, meetings, and 'personal intervention plans' if you're anything less than their version of perfect, even when their few chosen little angels are doing far worse than you. They will curb stomp your mental health into the ground and kick you some more while you're down there, just for the power trip. Why not go to somebody higher up to make a complaint? All senior staff members are best buddies. Any complaint made to higher ups about managers are squashed with no consequences or changes made. In my experience, it only made the torment worse. This company preaches 'mental health matters' all day long but in reality any mental health issues you have are just seen as a nuisance to this company. Without going into too much detail, I was going through the fear of becoming homeless, nearly losing a parent, and relationship problems all in the same week - I broke down to my managers and explained all this to them and apologized if my productivity was lacking as my mind was elsewhere. Three days later I was pulled into a meeting with them and the head of HR and was berated for not fulfilling the level of work which was expected of me. No compassion, no level of understanding, nothing. Only thing they could say to me was 'leave your home life at home, we pay you to do a job'. And unfortunately I've heard similar stories from many of my former colleagues. Tell the managers at Premex you're going to jump off a bridge, their response would be 'make sure you wait until after your shift is done, we've got calls waiting to be answered'. You may be thinking "I've spoken to recruitment and they said there's loads of opportunities for progression...I could be one of the managers in no time and won't have to worry!" Got previous experience being a manager? Got all the qualifications needed? Worked in customer service or claims handling previously? Of course you'll be given the opportunity to progress quickly! WRONG! The longest serving members of teams, with all the knowledge and training of the role you could possibly have, have applied for manager roles with the full backing of the rest of the team that they were the perfect person for the job....did they get the job? No they didn't. The job went to a member of staff from a different team who had no knowledge or experience of how the role worked or who anybody was. What a great help they would be! Just so happens that staff member was the deputy manager's best friend. Coincidence? I think not. Bottom line is this - Premex has the staff retention level of water in a sieve. The company has somebody leave every other day. People would rather be leave without having a new job lined up than spend another day in the hell hole. Why? All signs point to their terrible treatment towards staff. If you join this company, you will simply become another tiny, insignificant cog in the works for them to use and abuse until they break you down. You'd probably be treated better flipping burgers at McDonalds, and at least you would get a free dinner there too.
