Avantages

The local Maintech office was very close to my home and eliminated my lengthy commute. This is why I accepted the job.

Inconvénients

There are a number of Maintech offices around the country, and this review is specific to one in eastern Pennsylvania. Your experience may vary if working at other locations. Maintech provides IT services to companies, which could be as simple as only hardware support services, or as complex as complete Data Center services. --I was offered a position where Maintech had signed a "long term contract" where they would provide Data Center services to a domestic 3rd party company. I joined a Maintech team that would serve as Data Center Administrators for the 3rd party company. Upon arrival on my first day, I quickly found that the contract hadn't actually yet been signed, and there were also no guarantees that the contract would actually be signed. As someone whom had just left a stable job, finding out that you could be unemployed in a matter of weeks if the deal fell through was beyond unacceptable. I found this out within 30 minutes on my first day, and was job hunting again by noon. This was completely unacceptable behavior on the part of Maintech management. To misrepresent a job opportunity and hire someone away from a stable job and immediately introduce the possibility of unemployment was a definite sign of an ethically challenged company. And it kept getting worse from there. --I show up on my first day, and there's no domain account, no workstation or laptop, and no desk area for me to sit in. I sat in the break room for most of the day. Disorganized. --There was zero documentation about the 3rd party company's infrastructure, and since a contract had not yet been signed, I was prohibited from having any communications with employees of the company whose account I was working. Since there's no environment documentation (none, nada, zilch), and since we were prohibited from having any communication with the company employees, you'd think that it would be a little slow, right? Wrong. Even with the above being true, we were asked to start "resolving tickets" immediately. This involved making production changes for an environment that we had zero knowledge of. Examples of requested updates included Active Directory Global Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Public/Private folder permission changes. And by the way, if any mistakes are made, it reduces the chance of the contract being signed. This is the definition of being setup for failure by incompetent management. --The company whose account that I was placed on had just laid off a large number of IT staff in anticipation of hiring a managed services company like Maintech (although Maintech was not necessarily going to get the business). The remaining staff were H-O-S-T-I-L-E towards my team, whom were viewed as the people responsible for their friends being laid off . I can understand this from the perspective of "what would I be like if in their shoes". My complaint is that Maintech didn't disclose just how nasty of a situation that I was getting myself into when I left my very stable previous employer. --The interior of the Maintech office was run down and depressing, even though it was located in a very nice business park. I'm sure its interior was nice at one point, but the tenant (Maintech) appears to have let the place go. --As it turns out, the unhappiness with this facility was widespread among the staff. After advising a couple of people that I was leaving, it quickly became apparent that my feelings about the place were shared by multiple others. I wasn’t going to be the only person escaping this sinking ship.

Avantages

Great people, At smaller scale people work closely together Job can be easy depending where you are located. Bare minimum work gets you by. Job security is great if you put a little bit of effort in doing bit more than bare minimum. No micromanagement if no one complains about you

Inconvénients

No pay raise and positions rarely open up, which encourages people with the knowledge of the ins and outs of the system to find a different datacenter to work in. Communication between management and technicians is not great. Too many conflicting directions on what needs to be done which leads to bad habits and gaming the system.
