Avantages

Otto makes money and has nice facilities. Pay is adequate. Medical benefits are good. It is a stable business. An NPC can comfortably work here for life.

Inconvénients

Culture is poor in many departments, resulting in a lack of teamwork. There are different sets of rules for those who are favored. New ideas are not appreciated. There are many entrenched employees who only show up to do the bare minimum, tribal departments and supervisors protect their respective gravy trains and push back against new ideas and/or additional responsibilities. That in itself is demoralizing for those who try to succeed and improve processes. Communication between departments is poor, employees are not apprised of department and greater company goals. This creates a rudderless atmosphere where no one feels purpose behind their work. Managers are not schooled in people skills, which makes for unnecessary challenges and drama. HR policies are approximately 30 years behind the times. Staff is nice enough to deal with, but they are limited by the official policies. No sick days, no vacation for first year hires. There is a points system for absences. Points are given if you are out sick. Employees are pressured to use vacation days to avoid getting points. If you miss work for a funeral you are expected to bring signed proof from the funeral home. How insulting and insensitive. A final observation is that repeating “A great place to work!” over and over does not make it factual. A thoughtful effort is required to make this a true statement, and a lot more effort is required than what is presently put forth.

Avantages

- Good work-life balance - Everyone comes in to work every day - People are nice. Generally they don't care if you're kinda slacking off unless there's an emergency - You get to make military products that aren't actually weapons - Good diversity in the engineering departments

Inconvénients

- No option to work from home, even if your job can be done fully remotely (except if your boss is cool) - All projects I've been on have had a bad case of scope creep - At least in the firmware team, R&D is done during production. Toy projects are uncommon. - Engineers don't seem to take much pride in their work (anymore) - Production processes are much better set up for hardware designs than for any kind of software. - Quality and End of Line testing are both overworked and aren't set up to test firmware.
