Avantages
Working with other like minded vegans and the opportunity to help with overpopulation of animals. Provides a great opportunity to educate people about their companion animals. The job itself was very rewarding. Pays well and offers descent benefits.
Inconvénients
Very toxic work environment. There is a “click” that makes you feel incompetent and not welcome. I have heard from other people in the animal field that I was not the only one who has left PETA because of their unprofessional behavior. When I tried to address issues with the bullying, people made excuses or said I was just being sensitive instead of addressing the issue. One coworker told me she was being bullied and when she tried to address it the bullies found out and got worse. We are all adults working in the real world, not in high school. Not all of my coworkers where hateful. There are a handful of clinic staff that went out of their way to try to make me feel welcome. They would come in with a smile on their face and ready to take on the day. Unfortunately, that was not enough to make-up for the rest of the staff. Some of PETA’s employees do not even follow the employers rules on wearing masks. They buy cheap thin sequence ones that are mesh underneath to fool others on the rare occasion they did wear one. They would complain about protocol’s not being followed but pick and choose which ones they would follow from the main office. PETA’s lengthy application process is terrible. It took a long time to fill out as well as to get a response. I found this organization to have too many managers for a single department. It was difficult to know who was in charge where. I do not want to state how long I was with this company, but I will say any length of time is too long.
