      Avantages

      Bowker has a good product. They have some excellent product development. They often have talented people.

      Inconvénients

      Bowker continues to float adrift by changing policies and approach more often than most people change underwear. Continuity is almost nonexistent because of continual layoffs. The more talented workers get frustrated and leave. The managers and others who remain are your basic yes men and women. These people have below par knowledge of their own products. They don't understand the market or customers. The stubborness ran an excellent company into the ground. They had to be purchased by Proquest just to survive.

      Avantages

      They use modern programming languages (PHP, Perl, XQuery), Mark Logic Server, and are always open to exploring new technologies to make their products better. Cutting edge software development for some products. Good management. Small company that's been around forever and that's going to be around for a very long time. Programming peers with a great deal of experience and expertise.

      Inconvénients

      They have a monopoly on ISBNs and therefore they don't need to work as hard at acquiring and retaining customers. This results in services that are not quite up-to-date or current with the times.
