Some would say that being a family owned business is a “pro” but I found it to be a “con”, there are family member and family friends that work in positions that far exceed their capabilities. Management is aware of the issues but refusing to address the lack of skill sets in needed valuable areas of the company. The CEO is micro managing every department, causing excessive and redundant meetings, and creating a lot of extra and unneeded work. There are very obvious weak links in the chain that continue to be ignored because of their family relations.
I was being required to work 55+ hours a week and the workload was still unmanageable. Despite numerous attempts to receive some help, due to declining sales I was left on my own to manage the increasing workload. The company has had declining sales for multiple years and they continue to consolidate positions and increase workloads without offering incentives. My department was consolidated from 4 to 1 and I was expected to pickup all of the extra work. Salaries are already below the state and country average for their levels.
Something else that bothered me was the company would hold “prayer” sessions for employees. The employees would get time off work and free lunch if they joined the prayer sessions. This is an archaic policy, there were many workers of various religious background that found this offensive and unfair treatment.
