Avantages

You learn a ton and are generously compensated. Most people are friendly and helpful. Snacks, sodas and working lunches are provided. You work with well-known customers, typically on high-impact, highly-visible projects.

Inconvénients

You should expect a lot of work, a shortage of organizational processes, a culture of micromanagement and a lack of flexibility / work-life balance. They sell you on the family atmosphere, but, as I was told by a former employee shortly after I started, there is only one family with which the owners are concerned – their own. At a recent leadership meeting, the owners spoke at length about flat year-over-year revenue growth and outlined a 5-year plan to aggressively grow revenue, # of projects, and headcount. The growth goals are unattainable given the high degree of turnover and the owners’ difficulty delegating. Problems are worsened by mixed messages from leadership – e.g., all of the founding family members acquired six-figure priced cars within months of their message about company growth struggles.
