Great place to work - Avis employé Employé (anonyme) Troy Public Library

The people are great. Whether it was the patrons we helped or the on staff members, I loved getting to know everyone at this library. I was truly sad to leave this place behind. There was so much peace at this job compared to jobs, I had in the past. The work wasn't difficult, but it still felt fulfilling to serve the general public. The schedule was very structured. I always knew when I was working. We also had every other weekend off, which I loved. Highly recommend to book lovers and people wanting to get in touch with the community around them.

It is very hard in Michigan to find a sustainable library job without your MLIS. If you have a bachelors degree you will find only part time jobs available. Most of the time it felt like you had to be overqualified to be considered for a job.

Salary, benefits, COVID-19 response, collection budget, most staff members are nice, diverse community

No benefits for part-time, administration is toxic, patrons can be demanding and rude (more than at other libraries), library is a City department so it is bound by City rules and procedures
