Avantages

Great people who work together very well; an excellent example of remote technical teams being "done right". They listen to their technical leads, and so have modern, advanced systems and software tools, and -- at least for the moment -- fairly sensible processes and not too much time-wasting reporting going on. They expect a lot of work, but everyone puts in their share, and mid-management is involved and helpful without being overbearing or getting in the way of technical progress. HR was excellent, and while they couldn't offer the absolute best in salary, they made a real effort to provide meaningful benefits and actual work-life balance, which more than made up for it IMO. Everyone on the ground believes in the company, wants to do the best by their customers, and supports each other in a warm, helpful way. I could have absolutely seen working with this company for many years; even in the short time I was there, they were like family. Training was good and management was supportive of employee development. They have _meaningful_ company values *and actually make decisions based on them*, which not only led to decisions everybody could feel good about, but gave a sense of working together that I haven't experienced in many other places. You have to motivate yourself a lot on a geographically spread-out, smallish team like this one, and there can be a lot to do on tight deadlines, but the people and the culture made it easy to put in the effort.

Inconvénients

Unfortunately, the negative effects of trying to please venture capitalists are definitely showing in this company. Sadly, nothing in my experience ruins a good tech company, or a good work environment, faster than greedy management who bought their way in instead of growing with the company. It's really a shame to see it happening here. The teams were still excellent when I was there, but "the investors" were intruding in the daily business operations more and more, and not in ways that benefitted the employees or the customers. Lots more time was being devoted to producing meaningless graphs and tracking KPIs, and less care and time was spent on supporting customers and helping employees grow and collaborate as a team. You definitely got the impression that the company values were of zero importance to the investors, and there was open worry about what decisions they would make and force the company to go along with in order to make or save money. Things like high turnover, which had never been issues before, were beginning to take place; a real shame. I suppose another "con" is that there wasn't a ton of room to advance job-title-wise in this tight-knit group, but there was plenty of room to grow by taking on new projects and offering to develop and implement your ideas, which I personally found much more valuable. A possible con for some people is that you really do need to self-start, self-organize and make it your business to work closely with your team, educate yourself, and find places to help out -- but for me, this was a huge "pro", as I always felt like my team was working together, and like I was encouraged to have ideas, share them, and implement them. It's a lot of self-driving, but you have a lot of support (or at least did -- again, I'd check before working here to be sure the investors haven't ruined that)

Avantages

There are no Pros, other than working remotely, if you are lucky enough to live far away from Michigan. Someone considering using this company or working here, only needs to call 2 or 3 references in order to find the truth.

Inconvénients

This company is stuck selling a legacy solution that has not been enhanced in years. The new "platform", as they call it, does not work. Any positive reviews about their software refers to the legacy "Whentomanage" software. A quick google search will show a series A round of funding in 2015, which they burned through day-trading with the careers of developers, product managers, and sales turnover. Now a new line of credit which was needed to keep the lights burning from Dreadnaught Capital, will dry up since covenants can not be met with the churn in business.
