How would you handle clustering on multiple servers?

Are they using multiple servers? Why would they? How many users are we talking about? I have never used clusters for this type of system. Why would they! He admitted he got that info from Google and insisted, what if they are! I said, then, I would document that and let them know. Incidentally... They were NOT using clusters.
