Why we are using database instead of file system?

FIle system does not provide security to our data. Then he asked about PHPMyadmin , I said it is not a database, then he asked about Solr admin panel, I said it does indexing to data but we can not have a constraint or foreign key in file system not it provides integrity to data, but he was still confused.
