J'ai travaillé chez Cars.com à temps plein plus de 8 ans

    Avantages

Great co-worker Great Amenities Great locations Great work space

    Inconvénients

Managers are out of touch will not even acknowledge you or keep you in the know. Expectations were high for little pay. Some managers need diversity/Culture training

    Conseils à la direction

You were once an intern or starting a position out of college you know the struggle to learn the ropes. Teach your employees and value them.

    Avantages

Typically has attracted very talented individuals and tons of learning opportunities. A lot of flexibility. Great product.

    Inconvénients

Important that you can adapt to change. I think overall jobs today require folks to be nimble and be ready for change at all times.

    Avantages

Great Benefits Good Work Life Balance Entrepreneurial Freedom

    Inconvénients

Tough industry/clients who make rash decisions that effect your commissions Some decisions seemed to take an umbrella approach and must be carried out even if not best for your specific market A bit of a skeleton crew at HQ leads to slower response times

    Conseils à la direction

Get back on the aggression! Felt like a lot of defensive minded decisions were made towards the end of my employment.

J'ai travaillé chez Cars.com à temps plein plus de 8 ans

    Avantages

Used to be the people (who genuinely cared about the work they did), the work/life balance (work from home was just taken away). The office is pretty nice.

    Inconvénients

It's really gone downhill in the past couple years since going public. Alex was the pulse of the company, and we all felt great under his leadership. Since going public, it feels like all his time is spent getting torn down by investors. You can tell it's taken a huge toll on him. The rest of the c-suite team is a mess. Mis-aligned, not able to follow a strategy, not leading their teams. The loudest voice in the... room (sales) has been driving the strategy, which is a knee-jerk reaction every quarter (and most recently, every month). The result is a toxic mess of angry, frustrated employees who aren't able to produce quality work.

    Conseils à la direction

Listen to the advice you've been given: create a strategy and stick to it. Stop pivoting on a dime. Most importantly: take care of your people. You don't pay competitively enough to not do this. Hire quality people, empower them, let them work from home or have flex schedules. You will see them respond with loyalty and hard work. Every other progressive company out there is doing this and you will lose talent to... them if you keep prioritizing being thrifty over taking care of your people.

J'ai travaillé chez Cars.com à temps plein plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

It was good a few years back.

    Inconvénients

Now its on its way down. No care for what devs say is good to use and higher ups have an agenda that is not being communicated, just forced down the devs throat. Most likely they are going to sell/liquidate this company.

    Conseils à la direction

People don't feel safe anymore there and you will lose very talented people like you already have. No career path for Devs. Devs are not valued by the company anymore just the $ price of shares which is at an all-time low.

Nice perks. Decent office environment. Game room. Beverages. Great downtown location.

    Inconvénients

Constant layoffs and no stability while they try to please stockholders.

    Conseils à la direction

Employees are your number one asset. Instability drives good employees away.

J'ai travaillé chez Cars.com à temps plein plus de 3 ans

    Avantages

Company salaries are decent. People at lower levels work hard. Work from home policy.

    Inconvénients

Leadership loves to blame other organizations or other leaders below them for their failures. Friends are brought in by executives and create a lot of chaos. Constantly changing processes have given way to many issues between organizations. Every leader wants to claim the title as “savior” for company’s pressing issues. Accountability is non-existent. All visionary work for the company is based around other popular... tech companies and constantly changes in order to try to beat their competition instead of sticking to an idea of who they are.

    Dérouler

    Conseils à la direction

Stop letting lower level leaders place their shortcomings on others. Don’t let your CEO go into meetings and tell entire departments they don’t care about the company. Treat people like adults and stop with the games of favorites. Don’t protect people who have track records of abuse and being a source of discontent for teams. Stop copying the popular company of the day and figure out who you are. Find a stronger... Product leader who can actually lead.
