Slow-motion implosion, now accelerating
Avantages
- good pay - management supportive of personal issues
Inconvénients
The whole operation is essentially a venture capital money incinerator, on the scale of the famous pets.com affair. The codebase is shockingly amateurish, the "best" programmers use chatgpt, no component works with any other component because of very poor SRE practices and the failure of business analysts to even agree on simple messages between components. Component specifications are done in installments of Excel spreadsheets, each one contradicting the previous one in whole or in part. Whenever you point out obvious gaping holes in the codebase or the process, you are effectively prevented from accomplishing anything meaningful by all level of management in every department. If you persist, you are ostracized, sabotaged (yes, sabotaged) and "run out of town". Daily standups literally turn into all-day meetings, where team members, left to fend for themselves by incompetent management, fight each other to death over the type of a column in a database table. Argumentative and incompetent colleagues are purposefully made to unofficially lead by management with the double goal of not having to actually work and keep the team members fighting each other so that they cannot team up and hold managers responsible. When the team members finally decide to bring in an "architect" to make a decision, the "architect" sows even more chaos by being ignorant of basic computer science concepts and eventually saying "I will be doing a case study about it, in the meantime do something simple, I'm sure it'll work". The general atmosphere is one of patiently waiting for the end of investor's money while getting a salary.
