Why You Should Think Twice Before Joining Skillsoft If you're considering a career at Skillsoft, pump the brakes and take a hard look at what you're really getting into. While they might promise a lot, the reality on the ground for many employees paints a very different, and often bleak, picture. Culture of Chaos and Micromanagement Skillsoft is notorious for its chaotic work environment. Expect constant shifts in priorities, poorly defined roles, and a general lack of clear direction. This isn't a place for innovation; it's a place where micromanagement stifles creativity and autonomy at every turn. Decisions often come from the top down with little regard for input from those on the front lines, leading to widespread frustration and disengagement. Toxic Leadership and High Turnover Leadership at Skillsoft is frequently cited as a major pain point. Many employees report encountering toxic management styles, characterized by a lack of support, poor communication, and a focus on blame rather than solutions. This directly contributes to the alarmingly high employee turnover rate. People aren't leaving just for better opportunities; they're leaving to escape a draining and unrewarding environment. Outdated Technology and Stagnant Growth Despite being in the tech education space, Skillsoft is often criticized for its outdated internal systems and technologies. This can make day-to-day tasks cumbersome and inefficient, hindering productivity. For employees, this also translates to limited opportunities for professional growth and skill development within the company itself. You might be teaching others, but your own learning and career advancement could very well stagnate. Poor Work-Life Balance and Low Morale Prepare for a poor work-life balance. Long hours are common, often without additional compensation, and the pressure to perform under ill-defined metrics can be relentless. This, combined with the issues mentioned above, inevitably leads to low employee morale. The enthusiasm you might bring in quickly dissipates in an environment that fails to recognize or reward hard work and dedication. In essence, while Skillsoft may present itself as a leader in learning, the internal experience for many of its employees is far from a growth opportunity. Proceed with extreme caution.
