Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Pendant plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Cutting down hours to let us have a life outside of work. Get to work on amazing projects and make history.

    Inconvénients

SpaceX is slow to hire additional people. They keep it very lean.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps

    Avantages

I've never had so many amazing experiences in such a short time until I worked at SpaceX. Every week, amazing things happen. I wake up every day not knowing what to expect at work and am constantly pleasantly surprised.

    Inconvénients

Work life balance isn't great but not as bad as most make it out to be. Employee turnover is a big problem.

J'ai travaillé chez SpaceX en Contrat Permanent

    Avantages

    Company mission is inspiring.

    Kitchen and amenities are nice.

    Inconvénients

Terrible management. Majority of the leadership was promoted early out of necessity and are not qualified for the role.

Since turnover is still high at the company, less and less capable people are remaining, who hire the next round of employees (with lower standards). No longer a higher caliber place to work.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

I've been working for SpaceX for 2.5 months. Overall, I enjoy the company culture, the working environment and job contents very much.

The project schedule is generally aggressive, the job contents are meaningful and challenging, the people here are very talented, professional, working hard and self-motivated. The team communicates with each other with most simply and straight way to keep tasks rolling fast.

The company culture is friendly and respectful to employees, fast moving on small tasks/directions and but compliant towards big goals. It has start-up company's character and relies more on professional employee's technical driven development rather than management top-down driven.

To work here, schedule is 'King" and need to find all ways to make it. So prioritizing the tasks is a necessary skill to get your way out of stress regarding aggressive schedule.

The admin and support team takes care of employees very well with both big and small benefits. Except for managing your own technical work, nothing else needs to be worried here.

    Inconvénients

Working long hours is normal whatever you are experienced or not. So need to handle work-life balance majorly by employee himself - prioritizing tasks and focusing on critical ones can help on burning employee out.

First one month on-board will be hard, especially when project is on peek period. People is busy and tasks are threw to you without training and ramping time, also lack of accurate documentation (sometime, no time to read documentation). On-job learning, working closely with others and verbal communication is necessary to find ways to move forward.

    Conseils à la direction

SpaceX turn-over rate is high, majorly because of aggressive schedule which causes high workload. People rarely can work in such condition for a long run and burn out themselves. So may need to improve schedule plan and keep the talent people staying with the company longer which can increase working efficiency finally and project schedule.

    Avantages

Amazing place with a lot of great people
    Available overtime
    Free froyo(spell check on that)

    Inconvénients

Los Angeles. Way too expensive to live here. It’s ridiculous how bad the cost of living at this place is.

    Conseils à la direction

The hourly wage employees need higher pay and more time off working 10-12’s can be daunting for anybody. But working 10-12s just to make ends meet and be able to pay bills should never be an option.

Perks include discounted leisure travel rates, subsidized lunch, free breakfast and dinner, free coffee, free froyo, subsidized gym membership, health benefits and more. 3 weeks paid vacation.

    Inconvénients

Stress and hours required to meet demanding deadlines. No 401K matching.

    Conseils à la direction

Deadlines can be unreasonable, resulting in excessive employee stress

    Avantages

Geat benefits package! Heathcare mostly free for employees and lower cost for families. Free coffee, sodas, and some snacks. Break rooms and new and nice!

    Inconvénients

Privately own company comes at a cost in the aerospace industry. Long hours and weekends are mandatory. There seems to be a hierarchy in which you must move through in order to succeed for promotions. Outside experience is not has important as inside experience.

    Conseils à la direction

Let's consider Everyone's full potential by remembering everyone's experiences. Mever take for granted the newest or most experience employees thoughts.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

Overwhelming place in a good sense. So much is available , and expected, for you to learn before you could even begin the first task.
Very nice colleagues in general. Most people are young, even managers, so the work environment is very refreshing, fast,
Lots of random and awesome perks.

    Inconvénients

Poor and updated on-boarding documents / procedure / tutorials.
Everyone works long hours just because they want to, so there's definitely peer pressure that makes you stay longer. Most engineers in my group work 10-12 hrs /day on average.
They have several internal sites that seriously need to be restructured for coherence. Information is everywhere and super hard to manage for new hires.

    Conseils à la direction

Need to encourage people not to overwork themselves. We can't just work like a startup forever now that we're doing serious manned missions.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

Free coffee, and being able to create an awesome product from working insane hours and forced self learning are pros.

    Inconvénients

~Alot of managers /people in leadership positions have no clue of the technical challenges they ask their team or others to solve. So schedules are so ridiculously short, when they aren't met the managers typically just blame the team and the team gets traded/pushed out.
~Knowledge sharing was stopping amongst team members because managers would frequently have one or two people "help" with a part of the project , then suddenly have them take over and said RE or ME would either get pushed out or quit. The more I stayed with the company the more toxic the environment became. I think mostly due to the managers, many became scared of sharing any nugget of knowledge for fear they'd get replaced with someone else.
~Many , including myself would pull numerous all nighters / work 80 hr weeks to get the work done. (And not get paid anymore nor noticed) One engineer would be doing the job of 5 people. Because of the high turnover, SO much time and energy is wasted, they are constantly reinventing the wheel since the team is never the same from start to end of a project.
~There is NO work/life balance , there are no programs/help to continue an education (what time?), pay is the lowest of any Aerospace company, and in general the company takes great, smart engineers, tells them of the dream to go to Mars/save humanity, then churns everything they have out of them, and throws them away.
~They treat their people like crap, it's just hard to tell while you're working there with the denial claims you tell yourself of "we're building something great" and "I have to work x hrs before I can take it easy and finish this milestone."

    Conseils à la direction

The management that hasn't gotten fired/has been with company greater than 6 months are few. For this reason, everyone seems to be out for themselves. It's very toxic and will kill the company if not fixed.
