Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Plus d'un an)

    Avantages

•So much room for improvement and learning.
•Employees work here for months and years and still learn something new.
•Fascinating place to work at. There is always something to do and keeps everyone busy and intrigued.
    • Great discount and perks

    Inconvénients

    • Super-fast paced environment, where it seems like there is not much time to "catch-up" before the next change comes around. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not enough time to brainstorm on current projects.
    • WIth anything, there could be times of stress. Seems like one needs to be by their laptop/phones at all time.
    • Busy days where hourly employees don't often take their (2) 15-minute breaks. Employees work over 40 a week, every week. Work/life balance is hard to maintain.

    Conseils à la direction

It has been said before where SpaceX will try to reduce overtime, but I have not seen much of that happen. Maybe re-enforcing that or bringing the top back up to managers.

    Avantages

Very few companies have as strong of a direction as SpaceX has. You learn very quickly and can apply your talents immediately.

    Inconvénients

The work is very fast paced, which works for some, not to others.

    Conseils à la direction

    Keep it up.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

Never a dull day, always something exciting happening somewhere in the company. Watching launches with your team, or outside mission control always renews why we were all there. Lots of good food options with all the different places to eat. In the right departments and with the right projects, people can thrive and learn a ton and really use it across the company.

    Inconvénients

work/life balance blows hard. sometimes 14-16hr days aren't enough and when you leave, you can be made to feel guilty for ditching the team. Emails never stop and always need answered. Management can flip around a lot; I went through 8 manager changes in 4 years. Certain departments can be toxic and have no room to move up while others have so much turn over you can move up quickly (watched a guy go from a planner/scheduler to Sr. Manager inside of 2 years and I'm not quite sure why or what he actually did besides throw buzz words around directors and VPs, he never produced or improved anything). Also, parking sucks even worse now that there are apartments going in across the street.

    Conseils à la direction

None, all of my management was laid off. To their management...good luck with the missions. Maybe next time, put a little more effort into your layoffs and evaluate more of the good employees you're considering cutting before you cut them. Offer them a chance to change teams where they can be utilized instead of pushing them to the curb. Perhaps, after you lay them off, you also don't treat them like criminals when they are near SpaceX buildings by having your armed security guards rolling up on them and being threatening, that's not how you should make your former employees feel.

J'ai travaillé chez SpaceX à temps plein (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

Anyone working at SpaceX should be incredibly proud of what the company is accomplishing. Amazingly genius engineers truly doing work that nobody else can.

    Inconvénients

The recruiting team has an extremely toxic culture and I feel strongly it's from the top down. I don't know if it's the pressure from the public eye and Elon but this team will continue to churn and burn skilled recruiters if the leader of the team isn't brought back to reality and humanized. There is zero investment in continued learning and development for recruiters which isn't surprising since if you have 1 bad month you'll be on the list to get let go next. Why invest $ and time in people when it's easier to boot them and replace with all the other recruiters out there dying to be at the company? The recruiting team at SpaceX needs to try to be less like an agency and more like a internal, human recruiting team.

    Conseils à la direction

Take a strong look at the leader of the team because this person is the one developing other people managers on the team and just making their own clone. This will continue to harm the overall teams' effectiveness.

  7. « The most intense place I've worked, with the best people »

Ancien employé - Manager - Los Angeles, CA (États-Unis)

J'ai travaillé chez SpaceX à temps plein (Plus de 8 ans)

    Avantages

Brilliant people, mentoring each other and all pushing for the company mission

    Inconvénients

Not enough brilliant people to fit the work that needs to be done; recent layoffs can only have intensified this factor

    Conseils à la direction

It is good to sharpen the workforce and cultivate the quality of being able to innovatively deliver, regardless of adequacy of resources... to a point. When you chronically cross the line of short-staffing in excess, people become discouraged.

Je travaille chez SpaceX à plein temps (Moins d'un an)

    Avantages

Here's my list of reasons why SpaceX is an amazing place to work

    - You get to work on things that directly impact the mission.
    - The company goal is to advance space technology and enable people to live on other planets, it's right on the site
    - Everyone is brilliant, driven, and will be the best people you've ever worked with.
    - The work is challenging and there are literally endless opportunities if you want to put in the time.
    - Management is awesome, they work hard and are easy to work with.
    - You get to watch rocket launches and all sorts of other crazy stuff from mission control.
    - SpaceX employees are highly sought after, but you wont want to leave
    - You get to walk around a rocket factory and see rockets being built.
    - Great food options like cafeteria style, salad bar, restaurant style and 4+ food trucks. Also free frozen yogurt and the food is all subsidized, so you're only paying $3-5 per meal.
    - There are flown rocket parts all over the office.
    - The first landed orbital rocket is in front of the building
    - You can give friends and family tours of the factory.

    Inconvénients

Los Angeles is an extremely expensive place to live compared to the rest of the country.

    Conseils à la direction

More team building would be really beneficial. It sounds like that sort of stuff is already being planned, which is great!

J'ai travaillé chez SpaceX à temps plein (Plus de 3 ans)

    Avantages

-Being part of an ambitious company goal

-More food options than any job I've had, thus far. Regular rotation of food trucks, as well as a decent cafeteria at the main facility. Many snacks, healthy and not healthy, are also available. Free coffee and soda everywhere. Protein shakes, a variety of quick/grab and go options available at most hours. Daily juice recipes and kombucha for sale, if you're into that sort of thing. All food and drink items are at a reduced cost, compared to purchasing in the outside world.

-There is a good amount of brand recognition, so as others have stated, saying that you work here seems to garnish a certain amount of respect from people.

    - Benefits are decent, when utilized to their full potential.

    -Guaranteed overtime.

-Working with smart, highly capable people from all walks of life and in a plethora of positions.

-Laid back rules, in regards to dress code. Can show up wearing street clothes every day, if you desire. Even when working in a production area, only requirements are steel toe shoes and proper PPE. Colorful hair, excessive tattoos or piercings are not frowned upon, either.

-you can take your loved ones (who you will spend much time away from here) on company tours, so they can see just what your second home is like/all about for themselves.

    Inconvénients

The largest con in my time with the company was bearing witness to (and becoming a victim of) the toxic culture that thrives in many departments. As others have stated, everything is very clique oriented. If you're not one of the butt kissers, you may be isolated and not made to feel like a valuable team member, no matter how good you are at what you do. Expect to be often second guessed at team meetings when bringing up valid concerns. Also expect to be made an example of and even humiliated for your mistakes, while lead/supervisor favorites get away with a lot.

Some leads are given too much power, and allowed to run a muck, behaving more like supervisors than knowledgeable/approachable people who are in the trenches with you. With this, also comes the potential for micromanagement that borders outright harassment. You may be criticized for every last thing you do, down to how long you took in the restroom. Meanwhile, the butt kissers will get away with nearly anything that they want that isn't a huge offense.

If you are not an engineer, planner, etc. (someone working at a desk for the majority of the day) expect to be treated as a servant to the brilliant rockstars . When any mistake is made by them that complicates a schedule, expect your management to blame you first, until you prove yourself innocent. Expect any criticism, no matter how true, of these people and their processes to be treated as blasphemy. Expect to be confronted with huge egos.

Long hours will wear you down mentally, after awhile. The honeymoon phase of working here does wear off within the first six months to a year. Expect your personal life to feel much smaller than before. If you don't live a close distance to Hawthorne, have kids, etc. expect to be treated like you're not a team player for having to/wanting to leave early, even on weekend shifts and slow days.

Pay is generally lower than the industry standard for many positions. A decent raise is nearly impossible to attain. Achievements are downplayed at reviews, under the pretense of any new goals met for the next reviews having a larger impact. Empty words repeated every time. and rewards are minimal, if any.

Seniority was not respected or taken into consideration in my area. If the newer guy kisses the lead's butt, he's going to be treated better than you in all circumstances.

Not all job titles have clearly defined sets of responsibilities. As a result, your supervisor might make you responsible for things outside of your title's general implied scope. You may end up stretched very thin, expected to do so with a smile on your face.

401k contributions are not matched. No holiday bonuses. Most rewards, when given, are vested over time. Including the rare times when a cash bonus is offered.

    Conseils à la direction

Stop relying upon the "cool factor" of the company; treat employees, especially those paid hourly, with respect. Treat their concerns as valid, and reward them fairly for hard work. Yes, the company is large and receives lots of media attention; No, that doesn't mean everyone has to feel lucky to be there and take whatever you are giving them without question.
