Avantages

Mainly the people. A lot of smart, hardworking individuals work here.

Inconvénients

First, the environment. Fluor has had some well-publicized financial problems and the environment reflects that. They pay a good salary but their benefits are not very good. Forget PTO. They include federal holidays as part of your three weeks! That means you have to figure days like Memorial Day into your vacation time. Second, the management makes no sense. In a cash-strapped company, they keep highly paid upper management around who seems to have no real assignment—they just float from project to project—and they get rid of the lower level employees. That makes for a lot of people worrying about their job everyday, which you can imagine does not create a pleasant situation.

Avantages

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Inconvénients

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
