Avantages
American International Biotechnology takes care of their employees! I can come and go as I please, as long as I can fit in my 40 hours a week. No working overtime or on the weekends. My salary is fair. I never feel rushed or stressed out. And there is so much technology and science here! Everything from NGS sequencing (Illumina, Ion Torrent, 454, Sanger), to STR analysis, peptide sythesis. It's really a unique place in that there are so many different fields under one roof. I'm not micromanaged and free to think and develop, design, and implement. The company is a good size. We are big enough to pursue big/new projects, but not so big that employees get lost and forgotten. I think right now we are around 150. I have learned a lot here and there is so much more to learn. I haven't gotten bored yet.
Inconvénients
The salary is fair, but below a little below average. I take it as an exchange for a good working environment.
Avantages
I have been an employee at this company for over four years. I love my job, I love the science we perform, and the love the co-workers that I have. This company has state of the art equipment and participates in a wide variety of projects. Every day is different. Are there challenges? YES. AIBiotech was created from the remnants of a previous company that had teetering on collapse for years. The company has experienced some very tough times for several reasons. 1) Previous ownership were left in place and purchased equipment without regard to need or cost. 2) Projects were bid out below cost in an attempt to secure future business. 3) Clinical reimbursements for the lab industry have dropped in recent years. Despite this, AIBiotech has continued to remain in business and keep people employed. Recent years the number of staff positions have reduced. This is not a unique problem for this company. CBI tried to be all things for all companies and it did not work. Business decisions had to be made to decide which groups were generating income, bottom line. The challenge here is most of the employees seem to be unaware that private companies need to make money. This is not a federally funded research institution. We have lost some great scientists and it is unfortunate.
Inconvénients
The company is not without issue. I feel that most employees are under paid for their positions. Insurance benefits are expensive (not uncommon in business today). Employees are working harder than ever due to personnel cuts. Despite the challenges, I still have enjoyed my time here.
