Avantages

Great pay, great benefits, really nice people. Everyone there is very helpful and willing to answer any questions you might have about their proprietary software. If you are young, there are a lot of young people there who are fun to hang out with. There are plenty of company get togethers and if you want to play in a rec league you can probably convince enough people to make a team. They do have a pretty good system for rising within the company and they will talk your ear off about it.

Inconvénients

1) There's no getting around it - data migration is boring. Sure, occasionally you'll get a fun little challenge, but mostly it's just tweaking code that already exists because the client changed their mind on what they want. And the work you do is far from fulfilling. You are not changing the world, you are not saving lives, you are just making the business world run a little smoother. 2) They are extremely strict about billing time. You talked to a coworker for five minutes? Better keep track of that time because it is not billable. You went to the bathroom? Did you bring your laptop with you? Then you couldn't have been productive. You don't get paid for lunch, so most people eat at their desk. 3) This is sort of a continuation from above - they don't pay you for travel time. For a consulting company, this is absurd. I traveled many times while I worked there, and all of those hours I spent traveling were essentially hours that I worked for free. I didn't know any better at the time, but if someone offered me a consulting job now and said I wouldn't get paid for travel time, I would laugh in their face. 4) Low retention rate? At the time I was working there, I would say about half the employees were under 25. The rest had been there 10, 15, 20 years. While working on the software, you would run into "Created by"s or "Edited by"s with unfamiliar names of employees long gone. During my short tenure there, I was not the only person who quit, and there have been several people since who left as well. Based on this, I would guess that their retention rate is not very good. 5) Sudden travel. It can be difficult to maintain a good work-life balance because guess what? We're going to be onsite tomorrow and I hope you didn't have plans. And if you did have plans, then cancel them, because it's not like you can really say "no" when your supervisor asks if you want to travel tomorrow.
